I don't think we know how many people will do a "google search" when their shaft breaks. That is my opinion.

But you state that "dozens of others who had this experience have done". Cite your references. Supply the names and proof of those that google searched after their shaft broke, or admit you are just guessing. I admit I am just guessing. Please do the same.

Dozens...Surely you jest. Two dozen. Three dozen. How many dozen are you referring to? How many people do you really know that broke a shaft and then google searched?

    Admit it is idle conversation...

Really, why is that? Is it a shock to you that when the shaft on your boat fails you might do a Google search to learn about the problem? That's exactly what I and dozens of others who had this experience have done. We landed on this forum and posted our experience.

As far as the comments about very few G23 owners frequenting this forum...I suspect when an owner does have a prop shaft fail a very high percentage of the affected owners come to learn and post about it in the forum.

So if a high percentage of affected owners post here but a low percentage of all G owners show up, it would argue for the percentage of total failures to be lower than most here are estimating.

SoCal....I went back and did a quick count of pictures and comments. Through the first 33 pages of this thread...there were 30 broken that I saw...even into the 18's....might have doubled or missed a few.....

I am guessing that the number has to be over 500 by now. Of the 25+/- G23 owners I have met, only two were members when I met them. Less than 10%... Also, think about owners who assumed that they hit something and simply had the dealer or shop fix it... Like you, I am curious.

Mastercraft and Malibu dealers here in SoCal use images of the G23 snapped shafts to sell people away from Nautique. It is definitely a brand quality issue for Nautique to overcome, even from a simple marketing perspective.

Now that's rare. I think it's a good sign that this post sank down into the entries for a few weeks. No new reports!! But remember...it is football season. 32 Left...32 left...forward full....shaft break....awwwe sheet.
It depends on your definition of rare. 1 or 2 events in the several thousands of G boats sold in the last 6 years would be exceedingly rare indeed, but again, depends on your definition. I am going to upgrade my estimate from this being a rare event to not uncommon, if that makes anyone happier.

Regardless, since Nauti won't give us even a ballpark percent, we just have to guess how rare, er, umm... not uncommon it actually is.

Well...I used to say I did not know anybody personally who had their prop fall off, but now I do. Thankfully, it is not me. But an acquaintance of mine had it happen this summer. I am on record as thinking it was a pretty rare event, and that I know a lot of G owners, but maybe it isn't that rare after all.

I am curious to know when the new shafts were first delivered to dealers? For example, is my replacement shaft a “new” version or the same as the defective one?
