TechBeer would you be able to rebuild mine? I have an 08 230. Probably just pay you to do them all? My email is jmarksteckel@gmail.com

Thank you for posting this and sharing with the community. I had 2 gauges not working, my Fuel and Voltage gauges. I'm glad I found this post and was able to get the repairs completed. Now all gauges work and still look factory.

Once again thanks for your time and effort in sharing this.

          Hi
I’m looking to get a message to TechBeer about the repair to Faria gauges. I have a 206 Nautique, and the fuel gauge started working erratically and not showing the correct reading. I have followed the steps in the video to repair it, both the stepper motor and the capacitors, but its still not working properly. Any advice?
          Many thanks

Can someone post a link to or the name of the capacitors. I am going to attempt a repair on the oil pressure and fuel gauges on my 2008 230.

Sorry, I'm a new member and can't edit the last post yet.

              What I'm searching for currently.

Surface Mount Capacitor 25 volt 22 uF 1210 size (1812 or 805 will work as well ) (Aluminum or ceramic both work)

I found a couple of links but none seem to have all the information to confirm I am purchasing the correct part.

              Thanks for the help!

I ordered mine from Digikey here is the information on them PART: 478-KGM32AR51E226KUCT-ND DESC: CAP CER 22UF 25V X5R 1210. I have repaired both my fuel and oil pressure gauge.

kcautodoc, what Brian provided looks correct. Definitely use 1210 size or larger, 0805's will not fit the pads very well. If you need any help post here or PM me. While you're in there you might as well replace the stepper motors as well.

Thanks Brian. I have ordered them and the stepper motors but now that I'm getting to the boat it's actually all the guages are not working. This is not what I was told previously. I think it's unlikely that all the guages are having the same issue but I will try repairing one and see what the result is. While I wait for the parts I will start investigating the gateway. What a pain. Any clues on the next step? So far I have confirmed power to the gateway and I'm now waiting on terminal cleaner spray to arrive.

I only had individual gauges not working so this fix worked for me. I don't know the best steps to narrow it down to the gateway or not but if it is that then there apparently is no fix for the gateway itself.

kcautodoc your 2008 does not have pitot tubes so water ingress to the gateway is unlikely. When you say all gauges don't work do you mean all 6 gauges (4 small and 2 large)? Do you get anything on the LCD screens? I have seen incidences where multiple gauges (even all of them) have gone bad. I have repaired about 100 total with 100% success rate. If you are good soldering SMT parts onto a PCB then I agree, try repairing 1 and see if it comes back to life. I would also re-seat all of the connectors to the gateway. You could also try unplugging the faria bus connector between the first 2 gauges (speedo and tach I believe) to see if the first gauge come to life. If you had a short in one of the downstream gauges this could easily take them all out.

Note that the procedure to repair the large gauges is different than the smaller ones. I plan to make another video at some point.

If you need any help let me know.

What is the procedure for the larger guages? It seems like I read somewhere the stepper moter is the same but the capacitors are different.

Can I fix one of the smaller guages and hook the data cable directly to it or does the data cable need to go to the tach before being daisy chained out?

All the conversions are on backorder or out of stock. I am considering trying to bypass the gateway but the more I read the more confused I get. ChatGPT seems to make more of a mess of things than helping too.

                          Researching the senders it appears...

Oil Sender - 3 wire so I assume is digital with power/ground/output. Is there a guage that can directly use this information and which pin at the gateway is the oil output?

                          Temp Sender - 2 wire

                          Fuel Sender - 2 wire

                          Depth transducer - 2 wire

It appears these are all digital. Which guages or are there guages that can directly use this information? Which pins at the gateway are the appropriate singal wire?

I am thinking of putting a GPS speedo in and at that point I am missing only the tach.

Next question, Does the gateway even need to be plugged in at that point? Does it have any other functions?

Hopefuly I can either get these guages fixed and everything working or just replace them all and document a new and straight forward way for everyone.

                          Thanks for the help.

To answer your questions in no particular order:

                            - the larger gauges require a 100uF and 22uF ceramic cap, 1210 size, 25V+ recommended.
                            - the stepper motor is different but similar. I will send you the part number tomorrow. Changing the stepper motor on the larger gauges is a significant job. You have to carefully desolder the LCD panel, which holds 2 assemblies together. The LCD has ~32 long pins. If you mess up it's game over. I've done 3 of them, it's a pain.
                            - Yes you can connected any gauge by itself directly to the gateway and it should work.
                            - The oil pressure sender is a resistance based sender. 33 ohms to 240 ohms. 2 wires. Analog, not digital.
                            - Same for the fuel gauge.
                            - Voltage is voltage.
                            - the temp gauge info comes from the engine ECU over CAN bus. Hard to emulate in the lab.
                            - Speed is paddlewheel for your boat.
                            - Tach also comes from the engine ECU.
                            - ALL of these signals flow through the gateway and are sent daisy chained to the gauges over a digital serial bus.
                            - IMO I would NOT bypass the gauges. try and repair one and see if it works. My guess is that your gateway is OK but just a guess.

Feel free to PM me if you want help repairing. I've done about 100 of them.

Thanks, The capacitors and stepper motors should arrive this week. Hopefully that will do the trick. I will PM you when I hit the next wall. It sounds like the larger guages are going to be a pain. If I can get the smaller ones going I may try the larger ones but I'm guessing at that point I will just send them your way.
