Another Raw Water Pump Concern

I am not sure that a hose in a bucket will work.. it will not prime the pump.. unless the bucket has a hole under it and is higher than the pump.. therefore use a special device like ours :



simple yet effective way to connect water to the engine and do all sorts of things with it. don't put water pressure until you are starting the engine, because it will blow through the gasket or the seals.

my worst nightmare with a water pump was.. a clogged oil cooler.

Ok, so this is my solution. I tried everything. I tried priming the system, even though I have never had to with any other system. Still nothing. I broke down and bought a new raw water pump. Man that hurt the wallet. Hooked it up, ran a hose from the bucket through the strainer and into the raw pump. Fired up the boat and it was instantly pulling water. It had to have been something in the pump. Can't figure it out to save myself but it is working now.

That's great that it works now, you'll forget about the money soon enough. When you say "raw water pump" I assume you mean the pump (that has the impeller in it) between the strainer and the engine (and the "real" water pump)? This seems to be the weak link in all of these fresh water boats (including Mastercraft, Correct Craft, etc.). If the impeller, pump housing, o ring, belt, etc. aren't all perfect it won't pull water. You pretty much have to prime it to get it to work.

Yes the water pump with the impeller not the circulation pump or actual water pump. If it was earlier in the year I would have messed with it more but being in northern indiana my water time is coming to an end quicker than I would like.

Bod6866 we had similar issues with our 2003 210. I ended up PVC gluing the fittings on each side of the strainer and using RTV to seal the water pump. I believe there was a recall or service bulletin for this water pump. I've always been able to run our boat out of the water using the bucket method you described, when the water pump works.
