2002 Ski Nautique - Inline Fuse Size

    Hello,

Can someone share what size fuse should be in the inline fuse holder between the positive cable from battery to dash (smaller wire)? The inline fuse holder is wired just off the battery post terminal.

I had new cables put in over the winter and the first time out in the boat it blew a 10 amp fuse. I have checked the wiring diagrams for a 2002 boat with a GT40 but they don’t seem to indicate a fuse size. Searching online I have seen a variable number of fuse sizes, wondering if this should be a 20 amp but I don’t want to increase the size unless I have validation on what the factory states. If a 10 amp is right it could be the heater or one of the other accessories pulling too much current.

    Thank you

Sorry, don't have the immediate answer but do like to understand how the e-systems in these boats work as they are not always well documented.

My recollection is this era of boat has a fused main line that feeds the entire dash which in turn splits to feed each individual circuit. Each individual circuit has their own sized breaker. Individual circuit control changes IIR right around the year of your boat.

Prior to 2002 there are the individual dash breakers? https://nautiqueparts.com/circuit-breaker-switch-dash/

From 2003, the individual breakers are in the PME box - https://nautiqueparts.com/breaker-bo...ct-year-model/

It would seem like the main dash fuse would have to be at least as large as the largest individual breaker in the system.

Thanks for the reply, your assessment makes sense. The boat had a PME BOX as linked.

I can't remember if the fuse in my old 2001 S.N. with the GT40 engine was a 20 amp or 30 amp between the battery and dash. However, based on general wiring guidelines, If the wire is 12 gauge, then it is likely a 20 amp. If the wire is a 10 gauge, then a 30 amp fuse is possible. Apologies for not being more precise.

this diagram from a 2003 indicates a 15amp. I am away from the boat now but will check wire gauge, I think it is 12.

15 amp would make some sense. I don't recall any individual dash breaker larger than 15 amps. All the large engine breakers are fed by the main battery feed.

DId a bit more digging.. this thread indicates a 20 Amp fuse although the boat is a 2000.

This post indicates a 30 amp on a 2003 boat

And this picture from SilentSeven indicates a green fuse which appears to translate to a 30 amp.

I am thinking I will keep the 15 for now and see what happens but I am generally confident it should have been larger than a 10 amp and probably a 20 amp.
