For surfing I don't think even 89 would be a problem. The engine is not working very hard at all. Fully loaded wakeboarding might be a completely different story, but PCM has to cover all scenarios when it lists octane requirements.

I would assert 91 would run just fine even at sea level, at worst the ECU would pull timing if it senses any knock. That's what I would guess.

I think our marina is 91 but the gas barge brings 93 to my dock.

Yes the premium on our lake is mainly 91 and not 93

I think we have the one lake with Premium and I found out the hard way that other lakes don’t even know exactly what they are getting for fuel.

The unspoken truth here is that the number of marinas that carry 93 Octane fuel rounds to zero. And many who buy the Paragon live on lakes and do not trailer. In 2020 in the XR7 engine manual there was unmistakable verbiage which stated that use of fuel with octane rating less than 93 would void the engine warranty. If you look carefully that verbiage has been removed for the ZZ8. Thus octane booster would be one choice for those who do not trailer...

What's crazy is you can't even get 93 in Utah only 91 is available. I know at elevation you don't need 93 but if something where to go wrong with the motor while under warranty, could they void it for not using 93 octane? I have over 750 hours on my XR550 all with 91 octane and not one problem.
I put a deposit on a 2021 G23 and will be getting it with the ZZ8, so I'm just curious how they would handle this.

    This is from the Manual
WARNING: The XS550/XR550 Supercharged applications REQUIRE the use of premium 93 Octane fuel. Failure to due so could result in poor engine
performance and engine damage that is not covered under warranty.

From the 2021 PCM Owner's Manual:

Looks like all supercharged engines require 93.

I would also like to know if premium is required in the ZZ8 like it is in the ZR7...

I would probably run premium anyway but would nice option if it wasn't available....

Just found this thread and read through the whole thing. Earlier in the thread you had mentioned that no premium fuel on your lake was a deal breaker for you on the boat but I see that you do have one now. Did your marina start carrying premium or do you get your gas on dry land?

Thought would jump on and help with last few questions:

    - No such thing as ZZ7 (that I know of). There's the XR7 (550) which has been used for many years on G23s and other boats along with the 2:1. GM/PCM just stopped production of that motor recently, so guess technically at some point parts would run out but don't see it being huge issue any time soon. Side note, there's also a ZR7 motor which I think might have been an idea for the Paragon at one point, but they just went one motor only (the XR7 and then ZZ8).

    - Top speed is very close between XR7 and ZZ8 equipped boats due to the different gear reductions and props used for each.

    - XR7 performs great with minimal sluggishness even with crew of 8 and 2,000 extra pounds...or so I heard from a friend of a friend of my second cousin.

    - Paragon trailer pictured above is amazing and offered by Boatmate as an option instead of the regular trailer, but have heard it is pricey (roughly 10k or more than regular trailer depending on options).

The 2:1 has been used in the 2014 to 2021 G23s.
