Nautique Releases G23 Paragon

I suppose if mine was a seriously "trailered-boat" the point would be valid. As it is, my boat is removed from the lift in my boathouse in the fall, then pulled from the lake via the trailer, winterized and returned to covered storage 5 miles away. The entire round trip in the spring when I put it back in the water is 10 miles, the same for when I fetch it in the fall. Frankly, what I have done to date is ridiculous overkill... My trailer will get 20 miles of use per year and spend 364.5 days in dark, dry-covered storage. The surge brakes will likely work for my 5 miles each way.

And this is why I have no problem pulling my 230 with a Toyota SUV that can only tow 8100lbs. It's a 3 mile rndtp for me. And also I appreciate that it's not left on what seems to be a very nice dock year round.

I'm guessing you're on one of the highlands lakes - do you get the winter windstorms we do at Possum Kingdom?

I’m on LBJ. We don’t get any material windstorms. Though my boat resides in a completely covered boathouse,most of the year-and has a cover that covers from the tower down past the chines, I prefer to keep it in enclosed, dry storage for the winter-on the trailer.

Given the fact that I was an early "orderer"/"adopter", it shoudn't be surprising that I have seen every review video that is shown on you tube. In my opinion, this is the best, most calm and thorough. Enjoy...

I came to my G23 from a Cobalt; this is a feature those boats have had for many years. It is somewhat slow but as impatient as I am, I don't suppose I really ever thought about it that way; it never bothered me on the Cobalt. This issue with this boat is weight of that cover; they had to do this by virtue of the motor cover design that include both sides, IMHO. Unlike the Cobalt which allowed you to raise it manually if the power was out (and it was quite heavy) this one does not provide for manual operation. If you have no power, you aren't raising the cover.

You can access them from the rear so I don’t how often one would open the whole cover anyway.

I talked to Boat Mate Trailers today about touch up paint and some other immaterial items; anyway, I think he said that they had made (or had ordered from them) ~90 trailers for Paragons. In my opinion, Paragon owners (even less than G23 owners) would be inclined to order a trailer with the boat. Almost all have lakehouses, and really don't need them; and frankly, most don't drive the kinds of vehicles equipped to tow such a beast. Range Rovers and Mercedes Benz SUVs aren't the ticket for this; besides, most dealers will come fetch the boat to take back to the shop, if needed. There are weirdos like me who order the trailer to allow for flexibility, and other reasons-but I believe I am in a minority. I'm going to spitball and say that 40-50% of Paragon owners order a trailer. I say all of this to say that I'm guessing Paragon sales to be right around 200 already, given my assumption. Go ahead, shoot me down...I've been wrong before...

I have a lake house and if I didn’t have a trailer I wouldn’t be using my boat until June. But I do agree a lot of owners probably wouldn’t go out before then anyway

I completely agree. This also highlights an issue with the supercharged engine in the Paragon which requires premium fuel. There is no option for premium fuel at my marina. I'm not sure premium is available at the majority of lakeside marinas either. Are people with lake houses lugging fuel tanks from roadside gas stations?

Unfortunately I won't/can't consider the Paragon until it is available with an engine option that can burn regular fuel.

I personally believe they will sell as many paragons as they can make and I always thought the original claim of units to be produced was way low. I’d have to agree with you on half or less of those ordering a Paragon are also ordering a trailer...no need to really with the demographic they are targeting....although when I order a boat next year, I’ll also get a trailer “just in case”....even though it will be at a lake house...so I guess I’d be a weirdo too (although not in the paragon category)

Did you happen to ask or know if the trailer is overall the same between the G23 and the Paragon? Specifically wondering if length with trailer tongue folded in is same length or not. Also, saw you adjusted your lift...did you make any changes to bunk placement between the G23 and the Paragon?

I previously had a G25 with 550 and now have a G23 with the H6. Also had a 216V. I have never filled up any of my boats at the marina because they don’t have premium and even the regular prices are ridiculous. Plus the marina is 25 minute drive from my dock. I have a golf cart and 12 6 gallon cans. I can drive out my pier to the boat in the golf cart.....so my solution is a quick 5 minute trip to the gas station, fill up 12 cans and one trip to the dock with the cart loaded down. I fill up with a drop-n-fill. It’s quicker than driving to the marina and cheaper

Note the stitching on the seats of the cart. Do you feel sorry for our mutual friend/my neighbor? He gets a regular diet of Bama... RDT.
