What it needed was an extra 1000 lbs.

Here's a worthless trivial fact for y'all: the tower in the background on the right side of both pics is the second tallest structure in North America (2049'). Second only by like 20'-30'. Tallest is in North Dakota. Test is on Friday, people. Study hard...

The 3/4" plywood prevents migration or over bulging of the bag into the engine. I cut a cardboard template to figure out the biggest size I could fit before cutting the plywood. I planned on Rhino-lining it, but then realized I never look at it much so haven't bothered yet.

            Gang,

I attempted to consolidate all of the existing 230 Surf Setup threads here: https://www.planetnautique.com/vb5/f...summary-thread

I fully acknowledge that removing the stock Pro Ballast bags and going to 750s will make a bigger wake, but I just don't want to give up all of the storage. I compromised with shot-bags instead.

So Charles, pretty much all you did was add 500 lbs of shot bags placed under your pro ballast bags and that's it right?

Yep. 300 pounds on the Port side, 200 pounds on the Starboard. I also only fill the Starboard side to 3/4 or 7/8 unless I have a lot of people on the boat. This is a good compromise for me. I still have use of my storage lockers and the surf wake is MUCH better than it was. I know it could be bigger with 750s or more shot bags but what we have is plenty good for us.

We mostly surf at NSS 0. Sometimes 1 if someone wants more push. The problem with anything more than that is how short the wave gets. The 230 can produce a very long wake and killing that is kinda silly.

Yeah, knee high can work for some while waist high works better for others. Different strokes...

Charles - where did you purchase your shot bags and how did you secure them in the rear lockers? I agree with what you are saying and just want a little more length in my wave without having to upgrade my standard bags and loose all my storage.

                    Thanks!

Layne, talk to Jared at LeadWake. He is a great guy and very helpful.

I bought them from Leadwake.com. Honestly I didn't secure them at all. They're just lined up laying on top of the hard tanks. I don't think there's any worry about them moving around.

The 750s in the back without the storage lockers still hold at minimum five or six jackets on each side. Been doing that now for 2 years. Reinforced the dividers. I would venture to say a heavily weighted 230 at 11mph or more is throwing a longer wake that a stock pro ballast version. But then again I weigh 230lbs and need a waist high wave to surf.

REALLY like the 3/4" plywood idea! I need to add something behind the divider supports in mine to prevent the back of the bag from "slumping" into the flimsy dividers behind the supports.....if that makes sense. Either way, thinks is a very nice/easy solution!!! THX!!!!!

Yeah, it's primitive, ugly and needs to be Rhino-lined or something, but it really does work and it was cheap to do.

Any chance you have the specs on the pieces of wood? Save us all some time measuring.
