I dont wish to throw stones....and wont. I was unhappy about many issues and will move on. Depending on where the dealership is located you are limited to the number of boats you can sell in your area and you cant have a GREAT dealership and survive on a limited number of sales. I agree service helps but it takes new sales also to stay in business with quality sales people. And the lack of number of new sales could also have been some of our fault.....we are not perfect but we try very hard to be fair and honest.

Is this because CC sells out of their stock each year and wants to make sure other dealers can get a reasonable amount of boats?

No... it is controled by demographics, ecomony, other brands and customer demand. Getting more boats for the most part is not the problem.

I don't get it. You said the dealer was limited to the number he can sell. So that would imply that CC will only sell them a maximum number of boats.

There is only a limited amount of people the want a tourney ski boat AND can actually afford it. That is what he is saying, and when there are other dealers in the same area, your region shrinks, and if your lines are not drawn in such a way as to include some areas that have the disposable income WITH the desire for a ski boat, then your sales will suffer if you can't sell out of region.

I have read all the threads and am confused on how even a dealer could say that it is ok to have regions and you can only sell to those people in your region. Do you dealers only by a car from your closest dealer and not check the prices from another local dealer?
If I am looking for a new boat and the local dealer does not have the boat I want but another dealer does are they not supposed to sell the boat to me because they are not in my area? If this is the case it is just plain stupid, if I am willing to drive to get a boat why shouldn’t the dealer that has the boat in stock be allowed to sell me the boat with no repercussions? Why shouldn’t the local dealer be fine with that knowing they will get all service work? Don’t they still get paid for warranty work and service so it is still a gain for them? If I wanted a boat and the local dealer did not have it and I could not buy from another dealer I would be buying a different brand so now they lost all the money and service work. As far as price goes all the dealers in given area should be close in price if they are not then again the customer should be able to pick the dealer they want to buy from. Sorry for the length I just can not understand how they expect you not to shop when you are spending more than most people do for their car.

What happens if I go to order a 196 (or any specific hull) and the local dealer is "sold out" of this model? I get bent over by the next dealer that has one?

I'm only guessing here, but I think CC only can discourage the dealers from not selling outside the territory. If a dealer makes a habit of it, they can be dropped as a dealer. HO works the same way. They don't allow marketing outside the territory which is why you don't see stores listing prices on the Internet for HO products. THey can only advertise that they are a dealer.

But lets not forget, as in the car industry, a dealer can swap boats through their area manager, so the actual sale will be through the local dealer. And why would a dealer want to sell a baot outside his territory? All these boats get sold eventually, so if he sells outside, he looses the residual business.

Jesus would definitely eliminate dealer regions and then lay his healing hands upon the tribal graphic. He would probably also turn the water in your ballast tanks to wine, which is always nice

redelf75, I've made HO online purchase from Performance Ski and Surf in Orlando FL, Tommy's from their Denver CO location as well as their Lantana FL store, and Bellingham Board Sports in Bellingham WA. They also list all prices...

I have enjoyed following this thread. This is a classic economic discussion. Here in the U.S.A., we the consumers, have the final say on everything when it comes to purchasing products. All the points made are relevant and have consequences to all parties involved. A CC dealer who has to charge more for a boat than we are willing to pay will go out of business. If we the consumers choose to pay too much, than we are not very smart. If I can buy a new CC boat from a dealer that is out of my “quote unquote sales territory” and pay the difference for delivery and save money than I make that choice. If I get lousy service at my local dealer and report that to CC and nothing is done to fix it, then CC will not get my business any more. I would always give the local dealer a shot at winning my business out of courtesy. If a dealer will not sell me a boat based on where I live, CC will hear about it and get a detailed explanation of why I went to that location and if they play games with me – I am gone!! Every one looses and I made the decision to move on. Legally CC cannot dictate where I buy my boat. A dealer can refuse to sell me one however, if I can prove price fixing and am willing to go the whole nine yards- I will get my boat. IMO CC is choosing a policy that is not very consumer friendly and if the dealers know we will not pay unfair prices CC would have to deal with it. Publishing a MSRP does not keep dealers from charging a fair price to stay in business. But if a dealer has to charge more than a fair and reasonable price then we should not buy boats from them and CC and the dealer made a poor choice to go into business together- It will not last!!!! Lets be fair, informed and do business-my .02 cents!!!!

I don't really want to get involved in this thread, I just want to throw this in. If you want to see MSRP, the dealer SHOULD show you. CC may not advertise MSRP, but, if I have a customer in my office the first thing I'll show them is a Retail price sheet so they can see exactly where the prices are coming from.
As for territories, each dealer has different operating expences, etc. Some dealers are willing to pull down their pants just to move product, that kills the dealers trying to make money with REASONABLE prices. Different dealers have different delivery costst, overhead, etc.
Some of this may have already been stated, I can't bear to read this whole thread, so sorry if I'm being redundant.
