Some of you guys are obviously much more knowledgeable than me on this topic. But, with that said, Dewalt cant make a drill battery function at 100% for more than 2 years. This electric boats msrp is what? Im not gonna be that guinea pig. Im gonna watch my cummins diesel exhale huge plumes of black smoke pullin my 196 up the launch to the gas station.

Vastly different technologies and usage I think. Most engineers are saying that the battery systems in the Leafs, Tesla's, and similar should still be providing about 90-95% charge after 5 years with slightly faster decline after that (about 60-70% of original charge after 10 years). I think the warranty on both cars is at least 80% for 5 years. Will be interesting to see reality as we start to see stats as larger numbers of Tesla's and Leaf's hit 3 and 5 year marks. But yeah, early adopters are kind of guinea pigs (I'm on the list for a Leaf and Tesla S). BTW, I have a couple of Panasonic drills (most comfortable drill I've ever held) that still get about 60% charge after 7 years (4 batteries, one is maybe 20% and rarely used, others are all over 60%). It would be interesting to see the longevity of a large number of Leaf's and Tesla's, but they won't sell enough of them to provide a solid sample set. Nissan sold 676 worldwide in January. Batteries MUST be maintained properly. I'd assume that over 99% of people in the world do not understand this. Side note: I'll never buy a battery from interstate or any other sister companies bc of their new commercial.Comment

Agree with seeing stats on battery life and other stuff. Note on sales though that Nissan is selling Leafs as fast as they can produce them. They are also building a plant in TN dedicated to production of electric vehicles, initially just Leafs, that I believe is expected to produce 25k Leafs in 2012 and about 200k Leafs per year thereafter.Originally posted by swc5150 View PostComment
