The first incarnation will inevitably go through some tweaking. Remember those horrible digital guages in the early 196's? As long as the hull rocks, they can fix the other stuff.

To me, apart from the performance attributes, which look quite good, the storage looks a bit overthought and takes away from the form factor to a degree. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for function at the expense of bling. But the storage is just about all I notice when I look at the interior.
Does the base of the observer seat come up with the 206 or is it fixed like this one? That was one thing I always liked about my SN as opposed to my old PS205 that had a separate base like this boat does. Seemed like I could never get my gear to fit well.
I wonder if this boat is less weight sensitive than the 196. If not, that side storage will have to be carefully balanced. It doesn't take much of a weight shift to throw off the balance of a 196.1998 Ski Nautique (Red/Silver Cloud), GT-40, Perfect Pass Stargazer 8.0z (Zbox), Acme #422, Tunable Rudder.

Agreed...the saddlebags appear to make it a corvette w/ love handles.
I would think if you had 3 skis on one side and all of the corresponding gear on the other, the weight would be close enough. In a tournament setting it won't matter, any driver would make sure they're empty so as to eliminate any variables.
I still want to see one with a tower.
I watched the video again...Andy says that 2002 was the most recent year of re-design. I thought it was 1997 was the introduction of the TSC1 hull that everyone raves about? Someone set me straight here.

I think I must be out to lunch because for some reason I thought the latest 196's had a TSC3 hull or something like that.

I have a picture of the boat with a rosewell tower. I think it looks better with tower than without...either way looks nice though. Pretty funny comments about the "saddlebags". Perhaps they can call them nautique Panniers. I'll be anxious to come back and re-read this thread in a year or so once we've all seen the 200 and spent some time with it. I agree with most of the comments above...both the pros and the cons.

2002 - TSC 2 Hull w/ Rear Lifting Strakes
2005 or 6 - TSC 3 Hull (No lifting Strakes on any part of the hull)

I personally can't stand walking/clamoring over giant padded rear storage lockers as seen in the MC 197/190 and LXi. Every single one of those owners is going to have to replace that vinyl some day. So, the saddle bags look a little different but I'll lead a toast to the death of the rear locker. I see the lack of rear locker as a feature on my 2000 SN.

With my SN206 also having the rear trunk I agree and would prefer this storage area be on the sides; especially since we rarely use it at anyway.

If the rear locker on a 196 could accomodate a 68" ski, it would make a big difference in my boat.Peace..

M3Fan - this is one of the rare times we disagree :-) I like the rear trunk!
personally, the idea of cramming my $1k slalom ski in w/ 2 combos doesn't appeal to me.
You do make a good point about needing to replace the vinyl, but what about needing to repair the gelcoat from scratches? just thinking out loud.
personally, i've never been one to store a ton of gear on my boat...it just messes up the gear and the boat.
even on my vacation trips to TN & KY, I take what I need for a run and leave the rest on the dock.
when we we get back, I take everything out.

I really liked the stern entry point in the Infinity ZX1. It looks like the 200 may be similar without the rear seat in? Maybe the saddlebags will become just an option in the future, then we can all be happy! I would personally rather not have them, or simply make them smaller/narrower. Of course I may completely change my mind when I see the boat in person.'08 196LE (previous)

I was in the CC factory last week and asked this question explicit. The question was that the customer is in the lead. The 196 and the 206 will be offered in 2010. It all depends how many will be sold in 2010 if they decide to offer these boats in 2011. But you can still order the 196 and 206 in 2010!!230 with ZR6 running on propane
