Correct, they will no longer sell the 196 and the 206. The 216 will be sold along with the new 200.
    NOT true!!!!
I was in the CC factory last week and asked this question explicit. The question was that the customer is in the lead. The 196 and the 206 will be offered in 2010. It all depends how many will be sold in 2010 if they decide to offer these boats in 2011. But you can still order the 196 and 206 in 2010!!
Hmmm... If that's true, that's news to me, and a change since the interview we did with Bill, Andy and Greg. See below.

Is the Ski Nautique 200 taking the place of the Ski Nautique 196? What’s the fate of the 206 and 216? If the 196 is going away, when will the last 196 be produced?

GREG: The Ski Nautique 200 is the new tournament boat from Nautique. The Ski Nautique 200 is replacing the current Ski Nautique 196 and 206 in our product line. Once skiers feel the difference the Ski Nautique 200 make in their performances, this revolutionary, new boat will definitely be requested at all events.

ANDY: I am very confident with Greg’s statement; Nautique has taken the pull and wake characteristics to a whole new level.

BILL: The Ski Nautique 216 continues to be available as a Limited Package.

So is it safe to say that the closed bow and the open bow versions will come out of the same mold?

Which model SN 200 (Closed or Open Bow) will be used to pull tournaments?

GREG: We plan to use both the open bow and closed bow versions to pull tournaments. One of our goals was to build a boat that allows the customer to choose between an open or closed bow, without any penalty to performance. The Ski Nautique 200 was designed and engineered such that closed and open bow versions perform as identically as possible. This revolutionary new ski boat has one hull with two deck options. The Ski Nautique 200 – Closed Bow and the Ski Nautique 200 – Open Bow are identical in weight, balance and wake.
I believe the bold line answers your question.

            Jeff,

I also was a bit suprised about this anwser. I know this interview but the person who gave me a tour (which is great!) assured me that they will continue with the 196 and if there are any requests about the 206 they will make a 206 for a customer. Every boat they can sell, they will sell at the moment. They just wanna keep the customers happy and the work keep on going.

The closed and open bow 200 have the same mold for the hull. The boat really seems great and should be a perfect seller in 2010!

I did the company tour some years back (old location) and I couldn't help noticing the three diesel motors sitting on skids. When I asked I was told that they were headed for a ski school in France (cheaper fuel in Europe). I was also shown a current model with a non-current color scheme,"We don't advertize, but if a customer wants something, we'll do our best to accomadate", was the reply. I don't know if they'll still go to these lengths but It wouldn't surprise me if you want a 196 and they have the molds on hand, AND YOUR WILLING TO PAY, anything is possible.

It's not uncommon for manufacturing company's to have in their "back pocket" a black book of custom features/products to accommodate certain market niches or customers...especially given the globally diverse customer base. If the feature doesn't sell at above a certain % of overall volume over a given period of time, it will never make the price list. But the customer wanting this feature will definitely pay for it....
                Peace..

just received an update (rss) from the team nautique blog that links to a new page on the corp site in regards the the 200.
I am liking the teak look on the boat - want to know what the material feels like.

So there is a closed bow version in existence. Not bad looking (though I'd love to see a classic center stripe). That teak inlay is an expensive option from what I've seen from other manufacturers.

Well, I got to ride, drive, and ski behind the new SN 200 this afternoon.

All I have to say is that many of my fears were relieved regarding the tracking and interior layout w/ the new "saddlebag" storage compartment.

The boat is, of course, by design longer and wider to accomodate an OB.

Personally, there might be a few CB diehards that order them for the first couple of years, but the OB will dominate.

The wake is as advertised...very wide, flat, no noticable bump, the trough on either side of the wake is all but gone.

I skied at 30 and 32mph...on my '09 196 there is a bit of a bump at 30mph and it's pretty much gone at 32.

On the SN 200, there was nothing at 30 or 32...I literally couldn't believe it.

My ski buddy started at -22/34, then did -28 and -32. He gave it a two thumbs up, and he's a MC owner!

You will have re-orient yourself to the sight lines on the wake (where you line up for your negative one), but it should be a quick adjustment for most.

The tracking was solid...no lifting strakes, so it felt just as stable through the course as my 196, if not more b/c of the increased weight.

Holeshot was fine, but it seemed to me that it doesn't have quite the same 0 - 36mph as the 196.

Saddlebags are very deep, you can easily put your ski and all your gear into one side.

They are not as wide an obtrusive as I feared they might be, I think they can shave off some volume in capacity as a trade off for more floor space...or just make them an option altogether.

I would not permanetly store my gear there, or stack a couple of $1k skis on top of each other...but what the saddlebags allow for is increased space while on a family boat outing at a public pond.

Throw a couple combos on one side, a slalom ski on the other, plus your ropes, jackets, etc. and there is room to spare under the flip up seat.

The floor storage is not as obtrusive as I thought it would be, but I think it's too small to really do anything meaningful - other than a small soap container, or gloves, or a handle - you can get 1 of these, maybe 2 - but not much else.

I think you can put the rear seat up for a sunpad a la MC 197.

They are not offering a teak platform.

The platform has been lowered (closer to the water) significantly.

I would add a rubber ski pad on the the transom step and a iPod jack at the cockpit.

Thanks for the review. I'm curious, from your friend's standpoint, how the bump is at 22off.

How was the pull compared to your 196?
