Amp mounting locations for 03 super air - issues with drain

I am doing some prelim measurements for installing my amps and have run across a couple of issues that I was hoping I could get some insight from everyone with past experiences.

I will be mounting the amps to the side underneath the passenger side - which appears to be the most common. I have noticed 2 things and wanted to see what others have done -

The first is the horn is mounted on the underside and has a grill mounted to the exterior of the deck right below the windshield - However slight the chance may be I see this as a potential water hazard - rain, etc. How have you addressed this? I cant think of the last time I have used the horn, so my thoughts were to just fill the exterior grill from the underside with some silicone or remove the horn completely. The other thought was to have some fiberglass work done to completely fill the opening.

Secondly - there is a drain and hose that is coming out of the glove compartment that drains out the side of the boat. I would hope that this never collects water, since that is where the head unit is located. Also because of the size of the amps I will need to remove the drain, but wanted some thoughts on how to seal the outside of the boat or plug the drain since it is only used for the glove compartment. My thought here is to just have the drain removed and glassed over.

My last issue that I have thought of is water coming over the bow - granted this is rarely an issue, but with friends driving it inevitably happens. I would think the water would come straight back from the bow right under the passenger seat and potentially fry the amps. Has anyone ever had an issue with this? I would think mounting a couple of inches off the floor would solve this problem.

    Thanks for the help -

Rules (USCG or state) require a horn...so be sure to take alternative measures.

Keeping the amp well above floor level will help....I've seen water 2" deep in my boat. It goes down pretty fast, but a big wake over the bow brings a lot of water.

Horn/vent: I'm dealing with the same issue and havn't come up with a good solution. If you want to keep the horn, you can build an enclosure to fit around it and seal it to the underside of the deck. That keeps the water out but you lose ventilation. I'd love to hear other ideas on this item.

Sealing the drain from the glove box: you could just squirt a plug of epoxy into the drain hole. Or you could cut the drain hose short and push a cork plug into the hose (tighten it with a hose clamp). On my boat, I think I'll just lengthen the hoses and run them out of the way (I have drain lines attached to the glove box and cup holders).

Water over the bow: I think the only solution is to keep the amps high. I haven't finished my layout, right now I think I'll push the subwoofer enclosure as far forward as possible (e.g. toward the bow under the passenger console). I'll build a shelf above the sub enclosure and mount the amps on that shelf...so they'll be about 17" off the floor. As a side benefit, I won't see the amps unless I'm on my knees reaching under the passenger console (...some want their stereo gear visible...I like it invisible). Most folks mount them on the inside of the hull...that's a great location, too, if you keep them away from the floor.

I have the factory clarions in the factory location - the sub amp is mounted to the back of the sub box - the tower speaker amp is maybe two inches off the floor mounted in a vertical position on hull next to clarions. Never have any water issues in a 2006 SANTE. I would think the cure to a friend driving the bow under the wake is to not let them drive if you have any concerns. It could be just me, but I have never nose dived the 210. My 206 was a different story on a couple of occasions. The horn vent is an issue in your case, no longer an issue after 2004 I believe. Water will drip in on electronics below the horn vent. I have seen clear plexi siliconed from the inside to seal the vent - the horn is not as loud but it's not like we are driving in rush hour traffic either. The finger always works wonders for those on PWC's.

Thanks for the help Cam - your system looks great, I have been looking at your system for some time now-it has given me much inspiration. I think I am headed in that direction. What did you make your amp rack out of? How is it attached to the hull?

              Very clean setup!!

i was looking at that thread and it appears that guy is using kitchen cutting boards for amp racks. it's not a horrible idea at all.

I wanted to see if anyone has seen a plug or something similar that I could use to fill the hole where the old drain went. I need the space for my amps on the inside of the passenger compartment. Ideally I would like something that is chromed and matches the original since all the other drains on the boat are identical. If nothing is out there my other solution is to use a tapered dowel to plug and some silicone. I will be able to cut the inside short enough to be able to still use the threads on the drain to re-attach it, but I am looking for an easier solution.

Here are a couple of pics of the drain removed
