I am doing some prelim measurements for installing my amps and have run across a couple of issues that I was hoping I could get some insight from everyone with past experiences.
I will be mounting the amps to the side underneath the passenger side - which appears to be the most common. I have noticed 2 things and wanted to see what others have done -
The first is the horn is mounted on the underside and has a grill mounted to the exterior of the deck right below the windshield - However slight the chance may be I see this as a potential water hazard - rain, etc. How have you addressed this? I cant think of the last time I have used the horn, so my thoughts were to just fill the exterior grill from the underside with some silicone or remove the horn completely. The other thought was to have some fiberglass work done to completely fill the opening.
Secondly - there is a drain and hose that is coming out of the glove compartment that drains out the side of the boat. I would hope that this never collects water, since that is where the head unit is located. Also because of the size of the amps I will need to remove the drain, but wanted some thoughts on how to seal the outside of the boat or plug the drain since it is only used for the glove compartment. My thought here is to just have the drain removed and glassed over.
My last issue that I have thought of is water coming over the bow - granted this is rarely an issue, but with friends driving it inevitably happens. I would think the water would come straight back from the bow right under the passenger seat and potentially fry the amps. Has anyone ever had an issue with this? I would think mounting a couple of inches off the floor would solve this problem.
Thanks for the help -
