Anything look real concerning??!

I checked the resistance of the condenser, it measured around 15 ohms and quickly dropped to zero.

I also checked coil with test light and it didn’t really flicker when cranking-it more or less stayed lit, just dimmed while cranking.

If the test light isn’t flashing then you have issues before the coil.
You may want to take this to Correctcraftfan.com as there are some older motor gurus over there.

Cap & rotor would have to be imploded to result in no spark, a cylinder miss fire, yes. You have juice to the coil, that narrows it down to the coil, points, condenser, or a broken gear on the distributor. Points open when you crank? How is that wiring connection to the points? Clean up on isle 46. Throw the new coil on, why not. Points and a condenser are inexpensive items, if they haven't been changed out for a while.Last edited by Scooter G; 08-12-2022, 10:12 AM.

Thanks for the advice. I’m going to clean the points connection . I’m at the lake now so no access to parts. I have new coil and I can try it, but I don’t know if it’s right one as I just grabbed it on way to lake. I just don’t want to mess up more things by putting wrong coil in. Can I get parts from Napa? What part number for condenser and points?

Ok got everything filed/sanded dow and wire brushed in there. Anyone know how to test condenser? I have multimeter.

All cleaned up and back together. Still no fire. Just waiting for my son to bring new condenser to try, if that doesn’t work, then I’ll swap the coil.

A condenser is a capacitor. Only fairly high end multimeters have a capacitance test mode.
Yes, you can definitely get points and condenser at Napa and if they haven't been replaced in the last 5 years or so, they should be replaced. But I have no idea of the part numbers. The best way to set the points is with a dwell meter, but I doubt you have access to one. So the next best thing is to find out the specified gap for that engine and use a feeler gauge to set it.

Well, I installed condenser, no spark. Installed coil, no spark. Seeing as they didn’t seem to change anything, I put the old parts back in (for ease of troubleshooting)—and boat fired right up!! Like a very strong start. She wouldn’t idle though, and then started to run rough, and didn’t want to start again after that. I’m going to grab a set of plugs and install next weekend to see how things go. The boat only ran one day last year, and new plugs were needed at that time to get going. Plugs don’t look too bad now, some black some white hazy film on them. Going to replace anyways and see what happens. I’ll bring a set of points with me as well and new fuel filter .

Update...installed new points and condenser and boat started (I had replaced the condenser before so I think the problem part turned out to be the points). Seems to run a bit rough though and would stall at idle, I’m thinking I need to adjust point gap maybe or tweak timing maybe.
