    trouble removing thermostat

I am trying to replace my thermostat. There is a brass sleeve that appears to be press fit in the thermostat housing. It needs to be removed to get the thermostat out. Are there any tricks to remove the sleeve?

If I have a chance I will be replacing the t-stat in mine later this week so I will let you know if I run into the same issue and if so how I solve it. On the small block Fords I have done in the past there has never been a sleeve like that though.

That looks like it is upside down. I have never worked on the 502, but on my Excal, that whole housing would be flipped over and the stat would come off the top.

I have run into the same thing on my 5.7 PCM. What did you figure out? Anyone else have some experience that they can share?

On my 2004 Excalibur 330 hp engine the thermostat housing is a 2 piece unit. I had to do some heavy "convincing" with a mallet to seperate the upper and lower pieces. After that, no problem.

Figured it out. The copper or brass insert must be pulled out, it wasn't that tough to do.
