Who on here fogs their engines for storage?

I've never fogged my previous inboards, and wondering if its something that I should be doing. I'll be winterizing in the next month or so, and we get back on the water in April at the latest. She sits in a garage all winter, should I fog, and if so why and how? 2005 ski 206 with excalibur.

    Thanks

I've always fogged, as it prevents potential corrosion in your cylinders while sitting. Fire your engine up and spray the fogging agent into your air intake. Your exhaust will produce a lot of white smoke, but that's normal. I probably spray in half a can or so.

Scott, my understanding is fogging via the intake on an EFI is a no-no?? ICBW??

Scott explained why, this would be my how:
Remove all 8 plugs and spray directly in each cylinder, rotate entire assembly by hand (socket on flywheel nut) 1/2 turn, repeat spray and rotate, replace plugs and wires. I have used the spray sta-bil, IIRC 3 seconds spray per hole, so I do 1.5 twice.

Excal is pretty simple, plug wires should have tags numbers and all plugs are very accessible.

If you have the remote zirk in your trunk for rudder lube, be sure and hit that also. If you are still running the original cap/rotar I would consider changing those up next spring, plugs also.

We skied up north here last week, may sneak a few more in though our days are numbered! You could surf Lake Michigan today, 20+ footers breaking from the big storm.

I always just removed the plugs, spray directly into the cylinders with some marine fogging oil. Reinstall plugs, but do not connect the wires, give the engine a couple rotations by turning the key. Re-install wires and shes good to go for next year.

Do not fog the GT40 through the intake. Fog the cylinders directly and give it the couple of hand turns like orzech mentions.

I think you're right, and I've been doing it wrong all these years. Just talked to my brother, and he removes the plugs.

              Tex,

I always rotate by hand so as not to squirt any fuel in the cylinders and wash away any spray, assuming using the key will do that??
With the plugs out it spins quite easily and really does not take any longer.

Scott, bettin that aint the first time you discovered "your doin it wrong", and prob won't be the last, LOL

using the key will add some fuel, i just make sure it only rotates a rotation or 2.

Wonder if there is a way to pull fuel pump relay or something then use key?

On modern CC's, just pull the lanyard. It crank's, but won't start.

Yea, but if you pull the lanyard do you cut both spark AND fuel injectors?? Goal is to fog and then turn over without squirting fuel diluting the fogging oil. i fogged each cylinder and then put each plug back in. then it was not possible to turn engine with crankshaft bolt. i emailed pcm same question...let's see what they say.

Yes it cuts the fuel....or maybe we should say "doesn't allow fuel to be turned on".

The GT-40 engine will still pump fuel when cranking, as long as the key is in the start position.
It will even start, and run with the lanyard disconnected, if the key is in the start position.

Wouldn't it be possible to fog through a vacuum port on the intake on EFI motors? I have poured some Seafoam in a vacuum hose once and it worked. That would bypass the sensors on the front end of the intake system.
