      Typically you can hit it off with a rubber mallet. I'd take the tire off and hit in an outward motion. Keeping moving around it until it falls off.

        boat is currently still at old address. i was over there moving some stuff and decided to give it a go and got it off. the new one came in so tomorrow i'm going to get some grease from west marine and put the new one on and give the boat a little test drive around the neighborhood. i have a 300 mile trip to the dealer that NEEDS to be done. don't want this problem on the road so hopefully the other 3 are in good shape.

          the clear threaded cap says "fill to hole." does that mean put grease in to cover just over the hole? do i need to grease the collar after it is installed?

            The caps with "fill to hole" are originally intended to be used with fluid. Your bearings use grease so disregard the "fill to hole", just grease your bearings as usual.

              there is grease in there like crazy still. and the cap was full when i picked up in the drive way. should i just put the collar on then?. thanks for the help. eventually i am going to upgrade to discs brakes and replace all my bearings, but lacking the funds right now.

                Stick your finger near the middle of the spindle to see if you have a grease fitting.

                If you have the fitting ....

                (The risk here is you have a weak seal on the back and you pump grease into the brake drum and have to take it apart before your trip.)

                Otherwise, jack up one wheel and pump grease into the fitting while you spin the wheel. Catch the grease that comes out the front (carefully) with paper towels. Have a helper...and before you start, line a small trash can with a plastic bag to keep nearby. Also wear rubber gloves....this can get messy. Just spin, pump, spin, wipe, etc. In the past, I've used a different color grease that the last time so I can see when the new grease shows up. Start with a full gun, each hub will hold almost an entire tube the first time (if just the bearings were packed by hand and the hub wasn't filled) and then about a half a tube thereafter.

                  thanks air tool. you're always a source of knowledge about infinite subjects. if i had a dealer w/in an hour i'd be less pissed, but it's always something with anything i own, but since it's a boat it's even more of a pain. someone buy it please. refer to classifieds. im just going to tap on the new collar and cap, add grease, check lugs and test drive. i don't have time to put up with this. it's one little thing after another. and it's always a little thing that inhibits use for me. after i get it fixed and the trailer in working order i'm sending this thing to the grave yard.

                    That type of ramlin wheel bearing takes 90w or 80w gear oil not grease! They only used them for 2 years, had issues with them, and switched back to grease type hubs.

                        That was the original intent and now they (kodiak) recommend grease for boat trailers.

                        =============

                        The trailer mfg's ship with grease. It is a pretty good design since it allows access to the spindle fitting. If you don't have a spindle fitting, then use a spring loaded bearing buddy instead.

                        The design could be improved by:

                        1. Getting rid of the oil fill hole/plug in the middle of the cover....it is just another source for a leak.
                        2. Reduce the I.D. of the big o-ring some so the tighter fitting o-ring doesn't try to pooch out when the cap is tightened and provide a leak point.

                        One thing I will do in the future....is for long highway trips, I'll use old o-rings for the highway travel and put new o-rings in before launching the boat. After a 1050 mile trip, the o-rings had hairline cracks all over.

                        P.S. - the folks at Kodiak are awesome and sell replacment covers and o-rings cheap.

                          anybody know the size of the bearings on a ram lin double axle? it's an 06. i cannot get the kodiak cap off the dust caps on the 3 i did not have to replace the dust cap on. should i just knock them off and replace em while im repacking the bearings and checking the races? the cap is a 1980 also known as 1.980"
