Final touches before the engine can go back in. Clear 2pac’d the bilge. New stainless lag bolts in. With all the extra glass on the stringer, needed to shave off 10mm on where the engine mounts sit. Also installed the strut temporarily so we can slide the shaft in for engine alignment.

Got the engine mounts back from the blaster, painted and installed new isolators and bolts. Was a lot of work as they had seized up. Look brand new now.

Quick tidy up of the transmission while it is out. That and the v-drive had the most rust. But tranny cleaned up perfect. The v-drive is a second unit we scored for free and is in good enough condition well just drop it in as. The original v-drive will be re-built.

Had a massive weekend on the boat, and we’re now up to date with the timelines. A lot of fiddling around and buying more tools, we got the engine lifted and installed. Went in super easy which was good. Looks like it’s sitting way too high, but was close to its measurements. So we proceeded to make small adjustments and bolted the v-drive on. When we slide the shaft in for a first check, it looks like it’s about 5mm off where it needed to be. So any final adjustment can be made once the deck is on.

With the engine done on Saturday, Sunday was the day for the deck to the reunited with the hull. Did 4 hours of grinding first, to tidy up under the bow walk through and the transom. In true backyard style, we lifted the front off the pergola joist. Engine crane at the rear. Then wheel the bottom half into position. Just like the engine, it went on very easy and took no more than 5 minutes. We then adjusted and measured to make sure it was on square before adding a few screws to temporarily keep it in place. There is a 3-5mm gap which is why the deck was buckled. So we plan to inject the same glue we used to bond the engine rails to the stringers to pack the gap. Will also permanently bond the deck to the hull.

Big milestone. Popped the windshield on so the cover can fit properly. But mostly to take a pic. Not sure what coating was used on the screen frame but it seriously looks brand new. Only needed a wipe down to clean off the dirt. Interior looks great, very happy with the color match. Still need to fabricate and join the floor at the walkthrough, finish the top of the transom. Also thinking to clear coat the floor in 2pac just because the beige looks so good. Next step is to start cleaning up and re-installing all the other hardware. We need to get it to a point for an inboard inspection (seaworthy), as our insurance is pushing us. We want to do a shakedown water test and they won’t let that happen until the inspection is completed. So some of the interior will need to go back in as is just to pass the test.

Polished and clear anodised windscreen for frame… much much better than standard poweder coated frames. Hugely more expensive to do compared to powder coating but clearly superior.
interestingly non hard coat anodising rates 7-8 on the Mohs scale , powder coating 2-3 and paint 1-2 if anyone ever had any doubts as to which is better!
