My understanding of the layup policy on a boat is this, but I could very well be wrong. I believe that my boat is still covered for losses incurred during the layup period, but not if the loss is a result of something that happened while using the boat. Example, if my boat was stolen, or caught fire, it would be covered. If I hit something in the water using my boat during the layup period, it would be my loss. I really do not know about what would happen if I was towing my boat somewhere. and I incurred a loss. Read your insurance policy. It might also be worthwhile to have an initial consultation with an attorney, in case your insurance company wants to get stinky. Insurance is a business, and they are in business to make money. They are not in business to give money away. I sincerely hope you and your insurance company get this resolved as soon as possible, or at least before the 2008 riding season begins.
Hey, the days are getting longer now, looking forward to Summer

That's interesting. I'm pretty sure the way it was explained to me, when the boat is in the garage, homeowners covers it, and when it's hooked to the car, the car insurance covers it. On my statement every month, boat and trailer have their own premium listed under homeowners, along with some other jewelry, etc.

I guess I'll be making a phone call to make sure it's always covered.

      Sorry for your loss.

The Car policy covers the Liability that occurrs if you have an accident while towing, but the boat policy itself will pay for a damaged boat if you cause the accident.

For example, if you run off the road and no other vehicle is involved and you total the boat, then your boat policy covers the replacement of the boat.

The Auto policy covers anyone you hit wile you are towing, again any boat damage will be covered by the boat policy. Your auto LIABILITY pays for the damage you cause anyone else. (If your boat came off the trailer while towing and wercked another vehicle, then the auto liability pays for the other party's damages.)

Hopefully this gives clarity to these insurance coverages.

Let me know if your state coverages differ from the above,

        Thanks
        Thomas

The clam shell came out of my 05 206 while driving - SECC never had any one call with that occuring - Truck behind hit the shell with some extensive damage - auto insurance covered his truck and mentioned during the conversation that rarely if ever will auto cover damage to the boat - ski safe would have covered the boat

hi batman, you are indeed very observant. The tarp/canopy was completely burnt on the left side.i was given the green light by the fire dept to move the boat to the right side, freeing access to my boat ramp. The fire dept is concluding its findings soon. There wasn't any trace of broken glass ( except the windsceen) so, it wasnt firebombed. They did take away some battery cables because the front area under the battery tray show traces of an insideout explosion that was strong enough to crack the hull.
This is my dream boat and it is also part of my business so everything is suspended for now, until i recommission my 93 sport and ski nautiques.
I am contemplating a new boat and am partial to the 211 instead of a 210 becos of the "easier" access to the rear boarding platform altho the 230 's interior seating layout looks good.Since there is no insurance, i guess unless i get some "assistance" from factory. i will have to wait quite awhile.
I do not think a boat will self destruct like mine in this case but am hopeful that its a freak accident so that there is recourse to a replacement boat.
A good thing that has come out of this unfortunate incident is that we should insure everything that we have.
