    01 SAN woodgrain dash change

Had anyone ever painted over the woodgrain dash and panel trim with success? I've updated all my gauges and I simply don't care for the look of the woodgrain. Want to go with just a gloss black. I think it's plastic.

Sand/prep, plastic adhesion promoter, paint, clear. (Cans)???
    OR
Bring them to a paint shop?

I think either would work. Let me know what you decide. I’ve been thinking of painting my faded keypads for years but the clear plastic type film over them is worry some

      What about having it wrapped?

I thought about wrapping it.... the keypads look like they would be tough to wrap. I was hoping someone had done this before with success.

I did carbon wrap with few layers of resin. Then sanded to perfection and had body shop put clear coat at spray booth.

I wrapped the dash on my old MC, I played around with a few 3M samples, the brushed finish was the most durable, the carbon effect scratched way too easily.

Cant see the photo. I can see the video. Both of yours look good. I want to do the keypads as well, but it'll be tight with vinyl I think

went to two body shops and a vinyl place and didn't get the warm and fuzzies from them. Going to attempt it myself. I contacted SEM about what adhesion promoter to use. Anyone on here have thoughts? this is what they said.

Hey there, what can I do for you?
Me: i see Pastic, sand free, and xxx adhesion promoters.
                    Just a moment...

                    Dave: How can I help
Me: which is best for painting/prepping something that was laminate?
                    Dave: What type of laminate?
Me: i'm not 100% sure. it was a feaux woodgrain on the trim in my boat
                    what are the different types?
                    here's a photo of a similar model

Dave: We have not tested any of our products on that type of material. As far as the differences, SAND FREE will give adhesion help to ABS plastic. PLASTIC ADHESION PROMOTER works on bumper type plastics, PPO, TPO etc. XXX ADHESION PROMOTER works on glass, chrome, unsanded paint. Still none made for laminate.
That does not mean one will not work, just that we have no testing to guarantee one will. My guess would be XXX.
Me: hmmm... Okay I'll do a bit more research. I appreciated the honesty and the guidance. I'll assume the risk

Decided to paint it at home. SEM Sand free ahesion promoter, 3 coats of Krylon Fusion, then a few clear coats

Next year the wood grain look will come back into fashion.
