    G23 ballast plumbing questions

I am kicking around the idea of adding a little extra ballast in our G23. I have two questions that I can't seem to find an answer for:

    1. I know the factory is soft bags. Do the vent lines on these have check valves? Or are they open?
    2. I have not had a chance to pull anything apart and the boat is not here currently. How are the vent lines for the two rear and front tanks routed? It leaves the tank and goes to the thru-hull, but I'm not sure where they run the hose between the two.

    1. Pretty sure they use some type of check system because the bags empty to the point of vacuum when they drain.

    2.Not sure on this.

Stick your hand in the rear storage compartment and find the hose that is going to the overflow. Then just follow it down to the sack.

Judging my your questions, I think you might be considering just using the overflow to fill another sack. I think that would work, but a challenge might happen if the main sack pancakes without enough suction getting to the additional sack and you could end up struggling to empty the upper sack. I have heard of that happening with guys who did DIY setups. I think you could avoid it by running the hose properly, but it may be a little tricky.

I am kicking around a few different ideas. Hose routing could eliminate a few of them.
