Tube rope dragging in the water and splashing the kids?

I have a sport nautique and I tie the rope to the back of the boat. I dont have a tower so if I have people riding in the back my only option is to connect the rope to the very back. The problem is the rope drags in the water and splashes the rider on the tube. It sometimes drags really bad and then slingshots the tube when it frees up from the water. What can I use to keep the rope above the water?

    thanks

We used to have this problem. Unfortunately the only real solution in hevier kids on the tubes.
You don't really want to tow anything that isn't connected to the pylon. It puts a lot of stress on the lifting ring in the wrong direction.

I think this will help you with your problem. I've never used one but I have seen people on the water using them.

Teach them to ski. Problem solved. Wakeboarding works too.

We saw a bayliner using a tube booster this weekend. I agree teach them to ski and give the tube away at the launch ramp.

To solve this I pull our single person tube off the tower. Not that big a fan of it but it's my solution. My son is a little over 100 lbs so I'm not sure the heavier kid comment works...

Wait, I thought that the only way tubing was ever fun was if you were almost blind from the water splash and hanging on for dear life. Did I miss something?

My kids wakeboard, ride the skimmer and the funboard, but they still like to tube from time to time. They know I despise pulling the tube so they don't ask very often, but when I have two little blonds looking up at me saying "Please, Daddy", it's tough to say no. But they know we own a wakeboard boat, not a tubing boat.

The best way to get kids over tubing is to pull them in a straight line at like 15 mph or less. They will be bored out of their minds in a minute and a half.

Back to the Q, use the thinnest rope you can for the load. You don't need a 3/4" four man rope to pull two dinky kids. You can also shorten the rope up some but that works better on the tower.

I agree with AirTool - we use a 1/4 inch 75 foot ski rope (Overtons) - the kids hate the big rope for exactly the reason you listed.

The sooner they board or ski, the quicker they will grow tired of the tube.

growing up we always used the "ski rope" size and never had any issue with splash or breaking.

This reminds me of a situation I had last summer. My cousin, his wife, and their two girls (15 and 13) came down for a visit from Minnesota. I told them I would take them all out to the lake for a day. Both girls are athletic, but have never skiied. We were getting putting everything in the boat, when they saw my tube sitting in the corner under a pile of stuff. They were all excited about wanting to tube, but nothing else.

We got out to the lake, and they wanted to blow up the tube right away. I told them that I promised I would pull them on the tube, but they had to learn to ski first. After about 30 minutes, I had them both up and skiing. We spent almost 8 hours out there that day, and we never even got the tube out of the truck.
