Would anyone be interested in participating in a Group Buy for heaters or showers? The heaters and showers would be the type for boats with raw-water-cooled engines (not closed systems) If you're interested, post here and let me know.
UPDATE (4/6/2004)
Okay, here's the information on th heaters and showers.
Heaters
The heaters are HeaterCraft three-vent, three-speed heaters. These are the same heaters that Correct Craft installs in their boats at the factory. They will hook up easily to the stock heater controls on the newer boats, and also include a switch that can be installed on older boats that do not have the built-in controls. The heaters can be set up with two outlets for passenger use and one defroster outlet. I personally bought the same heater to install in my 2003 SAN, and I am very happy with it.
Normal Price --> $395.00
If we can get at least 9 people to order heaters, the price will be
$262.00 plus shipping.
If we can get at least 15 people to order heaters, the price will be
$252.00 plus shipping.
So far, we have the following people participating:

Showers
The shower kits are from HeaterCraft, and are the same showers that Correct Craft installs at the factory. The shower kits include the shower, plus all brackets and fittings required to install them in a Correct Craft.
Normal Price --> 320.00
If we can get at least 9 people to order showers, the price will be $218.00 plus shipping.
If we can get at least 15 people to order showers, the price will be $206.00 plus shipping.
I will PM everyone who has posted that they might be interested. If you haven't posted in this thread, and you're interested in this deal, send me a Private Message.

Just to clarify,
Does the heater have three "euro vents" or does it have two "euro vents" and one "hot tube"?
NautiqueJeff

The heater has three hot tubes. One can be converted into the defroster-style vent if desired.

Count me in on the heater. Hopefully, we can get enough people and order them while I still need it. Regardless of the timing, I still want to take advantage of the group purchase.

I'm assuming the heater is something a backyard Joe Mechanic can install? Anyone know if the 3-speed will work with the single membrane heater switch that came on my '01 SAN? If yes to both, count me in on the heater purchase!

Correct. Since the ZR6 has a closed cooling system, this shower will not work. Sorry!

The showers from Heatercraft, are they
AQUATIK MARINE SHOWER SYSTEM?
And if so, how are they different from the ones Ski-Dim are selling for $186.00? http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=101-S-C&variation=&aitem=1&mitem=1

The showers are the same brand, but I am not sure if the one from Discount Inboard Marine has all necessary parts to use it with a Correct Craft. I need to check with them to see which additional parts are needed.
I asked my source for the group buy, and he said that skidim's showers might not be ready to install on Nautiques. I'll check into this and get back to you.

What length of heater hose are we getting 25' or 50' in the group buy for the heaters? Some websites say that 50' is required for a V-Drive (which I have.) Will I need to order that in addition?
Thanks.
NautiqueJeff
03-30-2004, 04:57 PM
I can guarantee that enough hose comes with the heater for use with a V-Drive. I say that because I had the exact same heater from the same source installed on my Super Air about two months after I bought it.

Why can't you tap into the raw water going into the exhaust (before the exhaust) to use the shower on the ZR6 engine?
You could always add a water to water heat exchanger to fit the shower using the coolant from the closed system, but then you are getting into a custom system, and are probably better off getting the parts piecemeal to desing a custom install.
I am still unconfirmed for the heater, when is the deadline for a decision?
I have to get the boss to find the extra money in the budget.

We haven't really decided on a deadline yet, but i would think another week or so would do it. If anyone has any thoughts on that, post 'em here.

What happens if you don't get nine people to get the first price break?
NautiqueJeff
04-06-2004, 05:46 PM
If we don't end up with nine, there's probably no point in doing this. I'll speak to my contact, and see if something can be worked out, but I don't hold much hope if we can't get at least nine people.
Jeff I didn't see a change in my ststus but Im in for a heater Thanks

All,
Here's a copy of the PM that was sent to all members who said that they would be participating in the group buy. If anyone else wants to get in on this deal, please follow these instructions.
This message is going out to all members who said that they would be participating in the Heater Group Buy.
Hi Everyone,
It looks like we have nine people interested in the heater group buy, so let's go ahead and put this into action. The supplier for this group buy (Mid-Ohio Nautiques (http://www.midohionautiques.com/index2.htm)) has requested that all people who are participating in this group buy contact them as soon as possible to make payment and provide shipping information. I feel like people are getting a great deal on this heater. I have the same heater in my SAN, and I love it. Please call Mid-Ohio Nautiques at 419-929-9119 (ask for Danette or Kellie) to make payment and provide a shipping address. Make sure to mention the PlanetNautique Heater Group Buy. If you have any questions, please send me a PM.
The final price will be $262.00 plus shipping.
Here's what Mid-Ohio Nautiques had to say about payments:
Jeff, the best bet is to get them to call us and place the order. They will need to give a CC number for payment, shipping address and what make, model and year boat they have. It will be important for them to all do this ASAP if they want the group buying program to work. They should call 419-929-9119 and ask for Danette or Kellie and tell them that they are calling about the PlanetNautique group buy for heaters.

Hey Jeff, any idea how the heater we're in for is different than the one available at http://www.go2marine.com/frameset.jsp?servletPath=/g2m&action=GoBPage&id=74537F? Looks to be same model and stuff and if so, doesn't appear we're getting much of a deal.
Thoughts?
I'm still in, but my curiosity is piqued.

Joe,
I checked out what you found, and that certainly is a good price. One thing to keep in mind is that the kits that our vendor is selling come complete with all hook-ups and fittings for YOUR SPECIFIC BOAT. When you call Mid-Ohio to order, they will take down all of the information necessary so that the heater you receive will bolt right into your boat. It does look like you have come across a good deal, but the dealer that we are dealing with has mentioned in the past that heaters not purchased for the exact boat that they will be mounted in would require additional parts in order to hook up to a Nautique. I hope this helps a little bit. That is, by the way, the best price I have seen on the heaters other than our group buy.

I found that price before this group buy, and determined that after you add all the items needed, it would still be well over $300 from that vendor. You still need the hose, fittings, and other misc. items that are not included in that "basic" kit. Also from what i understand we are getting 3 hot tubes, and not the 2 hot tubes, and 1 euro vent. That alone adds quite a bit of value to the system.
I feel the group buy is saving us about $75.
Enough to sway somebody that was going to buy the heater anyways, but not enough of a savings to make somebody get a heater if they were not in the market for one.

I figured there was something I missed so thought I'd check. Still seems like a good deal to me.
Thanks for setting this up, by the way!
