Any suggestions for some loud tower speakers? I'm thinking kicker or polk, but where do i find them? Any others brands i should be looking at ?

    RE: Tower Speakers

NVS entity 1010's. Coincidentally I am also selling my pair if you are interested.

But seriously, if you want to get tower speaker to serve the purpose for which they were created, go with either NVS or Wetsounds. If you want to run with the "bling/I'm cool/serve no other purpose look" go with kicker or polk for tower speakers.

I have a pair of Wetsounds 485's and they are very loud. I would certainly recommend them.

Wow, thanks for clarifying! I guess our's fall into the "bling/I'm cool/serve no other purpose look".

Maybe some people don't have $1600 to spend on a pair of tower speakers? Or maybe some don't feel the need to project their music 200 yards? Oh well, at least we look cool! Nice blanket statement by the way.

if you don't want to go crazy i'd say get the kicker towers that use horns. i'm not sure of the model #, but i believe they handle 150w rms on each, so you should be able to amp them fairly easily. i'm going to say you probably won't hear them while you're riding, but they will make your system sound very nice

              RE: Re: RE: Tower Speakers

I hear ya MHayes... I have Polk db675's in mine and they're not amazing, but they sound great, especially for coaxials and considering the cost. They were NOT incredibly expensive. For a speaker to project a great distance at volume they need to be designed like a pro-audio speaker. Long throw drivers, enclosure's, horn, titanium... etc., they will sound incredibly "bright" close up, and almost hurt if you're directly in front of them. These are the Wetsounds and NVS setups, much differently constructed than a "car" speaker made for an enclosed box. Making sound sound good in the wide open is incredibly difficult, which is why studio's are so small and with so many neat angles.... Anyway, that being said, you can probably hear cans on a tower, but you'll hear Pro-audio setups better. That's also why the Evid 6.2's sound so good, and although not intentionally, made a great tower speaker. Anyway, my thoughts... if you're not looking to blow a ton of money then I've heard that the new Kicker tower components with the loaded horn sound pretty good, especially for the money.

I think everyone who is whining about an extra 300-600 dollars that they can't afford on high quality speakers is full of crap! Look in the mirror gentlemen, you own the nicest wake boat in the world (ranging anywhere from $30K to 80K), and your paying $4 a gallon every weekend to feed these gas guzzlers, and you are bitchin about a couple hundred dollars? If you are that tight with your money, tell me why do you own a Correct Craft? I must have missed the free Nautique day they had at the welfare office, give me a break!

                  RE: Re: RE: Tower Speakers

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone, but that's a fact in terms of tower speakers. Tower speakers serve no other purpose other than to send music to the rider. And unless you're pushing way more than the max recommended power to your stock 4 stack polk/whatever brand of tower speakers, assuming that of which none are HLCD or similar, the tower speakers are essentially useless 80' back - that is unless you put 8 cans up there and pony up the cash on extra amps which would then essentially equal the cost of what it would be to buy a pair of NVS/Wetsounds.

I understand that not everyone can afford NVS/Wetsounds, so I apologize for coming off as "that guy"; but after using/being in boats with almost every setup, what I said is true (but maybe could be worded a little better :grin.

damador, next time I need some financial advice on what to spend my money on, I'll make sure I come to you....unbelieveable! I guess I got lucky and got to the welfare office on the right day, I mean, how else could I afford a CC given that I didn't spend the money on our tower speakers?

Sinkoumn, I defintely understand that the horn loaded speakers are better a projecting the sound to the rider than regular car audio speakers. I was able to get a pair of Boss B530s with the MB Quart drivers at no cost and they serve our purpose just fine. Could the music be louder at 80 feet, sure, but they work pretty good and I'll make use of them until they crap out. No worries on the "that guy" point, I wasn't thinking that.

He didn't get ripped BTW, but when you make a comment that basically bashes everything except for NVS and Wetsounds and says they are worthless, then maybe he deserves to get ripped, JMO.

I installed a pair of Kicker KMT6 tower speakers a few months ago and I'm very pleased with them. At 85' I can still hear the music just fine and spent a fraction of the cost of Wetsounds/NVS. Sure those brands are louder, but I'm not looking to let people acroos the lake hear me, just me behind the boat. Plus I have a few hundred more dollars to spend on gas instead of sound. I haven't seen a tower speaker yet that is loud enough to move the boat using percusion!

Weigh all your opitions, count your money, and make an informed decision. No point going broke just to look cool.

i agree that factory tower speakers are over prices. you're paying for brushed/polished aluminum tubs. i could hear 1 485 before i turned mine into a 3some so i'd say you will be able to hear two pro 80's amped up right. if you want something that is not going to detoriorate get wet sounds. every inch of it is marine formulated. they do NOT make any products but marine and do not just throw in a car coaxial into their housing. the trick connect is nice for getting a good strong connection too. you could easily find a good way to amp a pair of pro 80's also. a very strong two channel amp or a bridged 4 channel should work nicely. the pdx amps run stable at 4ohms bridged, wet sounds will have their amps out soon, etc. i like the jl audio marine amps and have never had any problems with them. if i were you i'd go with either kicker or wet sounds speakers and if you go with kicker buy a new amp for your sub. if you have the factory set up you're running abougt 150w on a sub that wants 300w rms.
