I traded out with the dealer my tower up cover, for a new tower down cover. The one that came with the boat (tower up) worked for towing, but it was for an earlier year boat (pre-2021) and didn't fit the tower pads properly. I had to take the boat to the Dealer on Friday for some Warranty work with the tower down and the new cover strapped down. I look in the mirror at about 50mph, and I see a big black balloon in the mirror. Pull over, check to make sure everything is intact, repeat, and same effect. Pulled the cover off, put the tower up, and headed on.
Come to find out that the tower down covers (manual rear folding tower) are for storing and mooring only? Has anyone been able to accomplish this successfully with the tower down? Straps, tie downs, something. I can go back to the tower up cover for towing, but it would sure be nice to throw all your gear in the boat, and have a clean tower at the end of a trip. I know that Nautique does recommend towing the Paragons with a telescoping tower under cover.
I am probably repeating something that has already been discussed, and I did see that Jeff stated that Nautique does not recommend towing with the tower down.
I do have an option of having a custom cover made, thicker canvas, re-enforced tear points and no vents. Haven't gotten a firm quote yet, but probably in the $2000-$3000 range. A little rich for the 2 to 3 covered long hauls each season. Could also go back to the tower up cover for $1300. In either event there may be a cover coming up for sale in the near distant future if I don't come up with another solve. Thanks for any thoughts.
