    Our new 2008 230 TE

    Hi All,

First time poster. My Dad and I got our first Nautique this year. In May. Click image for larger version

This is it during the watertest the day we bought it.

Changes we've made since then would be:

    added arrow sac,
Added two wedge sacs to back.
Switched out racks to support wider surf boards.
    New batteries
    Lots of cleaning.

I think the old owner upgraded the stereo to JL amps and an Alpine deck as I don't think that is stock.

First few months it was pretty good at throwing a large enough surf wake for us to go behind with a few people on the boat.

I ride an Inland Surfer Black Pearl at 190lbs, Regular. My Dad rides an Inland Surfer Swallow V2. Hes 60+ Years old and 220+ and is goofy. We needed a few extra bodies in the boat so he can throw in the line. Our third board is a IS Tako for the rest who want to learn.

This week my brother in law and I removed the hardtanks in the rear and plumbed in two 1100 lbs bags.
And we are keeping the two wedge sacs for when less people show up. Now we have an amazing wake.

A couple questions I wanted to throw out there:
Has anyone put on a FAE on a 08 230 before, and what do you need to look out for when installing?

Has anyone piggybacked their arrow sac to the belly ballast, and if so, how well does it empty? Which port did you use for the overflow?

Is there an aftermarket Nss substitute for this hull or what have any of you tried to make the wake monstrous and clean? Ours is pretty amazing, but always room for improvement.

Our plans for the boat this winter are to add a splash of color to the side: maybe fill in the star with solid pink or something, and do the registration the same color.
And add lights to the tower.

Any and all ideas and or pointers are welcome.

    Thanks,
    Matt

Awesome boat! I loved my 2009 (same boat) but sadly had to downsize due to the cuts in pay and pension changes... Great surf hull!!

Great boat. We piggy backed the center tank into an arrow into an under seat bow and out the vent. It worked but we had to be careful when draining to not pull a vacuum on the hard tank. There were several threads on here on using a hose in the hose to relieve the pressure, or we just had a quick connect on the hose to the bags and would disconnect it if the tank started to suck in.

I don't have our FAE exhaust on yet should arrive tomorrow. If I get time to install over the weekend, I'll give you a report back.

We used the lower back ports on each side of our "V" bow sac (port to fill and starboard for overflow). I tried to use some of the ports on the top but they pushed on the seats more than I liked and this was the only configuration that would fix this issue. I also ran some 3/8 hose from overflow to with in 6" of the fill port so we didn't run in to any suction issues when draining. Lowes hardware sells the hose (it's whitish/semitransparent semirigid). Poke some of the hose in to the overflow hose, the 90* bend keeps it from moving, then feed the other end close to the full/drain. Drains completely if you use the 3/8 hose I mention above make sure that it's not long enough to go from the overflow to the fill/drain of it will not drain completely.

There is a thread on here from a few weeks ago about an NSS for our hulls. A member is custom making them on a per boat basis, he's located in Indiana which might be a little far for you but I'm thinking about doing it this winter.

Good looking boat, a splash of color will really make the boat pop.

I'd like to see a picture of your surf wake after removing the hard tanks. I have not removed ours but we are piggy backing with 1100lbs sacs. the only reason we have not removed them is we wakeboard more than surf and don't need any extra weight for wakeboarding.

FAE: Was able to install the FAE on my 230 this weekend. When cutting the SS bar stock I dulled a sawzall blade, had more to cut so might want to keep some extra blades. When drilling the holes in the SS the chips are HOT have several burns on my hand/arms where they stuck to me. I installed it while on the lift with the platform on the boat. I would no install it this way again.

On aside note, my wife noticed right away how much quieter it was at idle and at speed.

I don't have a 230 but do have an 08 210 that I just re-installed an FAE on, but since you are finished you have experienced the small challenges associated with install. For others a drill press comes in handy when drilling through the square stock and use a cut off wheel in an angle grinder when cutting the SS bar stock, as it makes it very easy. I did go back and purchase/ install the optional flapper for piece of mind. By all means remove the platform, making the install much easier.

Nice boat! That truck looks extremely confused in the first pic.
