    High Oil Pressure?

The oil PSI on my boat seems to run pretty high. Is this anything I need to be concerned with or look into further? It has always run high since I got the boat. Typically my guage reads right around 65 PSI. This season it seems to be running around 72 PSI. The boat seems to run fine, I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t ignoring a potentially serious issue.

    Thanks

      SAE 15W-40

Reads high all the time, there is very little change. Sometimes it will drop like 1 PSI after it has been running for a few minutes, but never really fluctuates more than +-2 PSI.

Rule of trhumg, at least 10lbs of pressure for every thousand RPM, IE, 5000 at least 50 lbs.

If that's the case I'm WAY over. My typical RPMs are right around 4000. And the PSI doesn't seem to change if I slow down or speed up...

No need to panic at LEAST, you should have 10 lbs per thousand rpm.

Is the sender original? I think I'd replace it. It's only about 20.00 and maybe going bad.

Yeah, it's the original, my boat is only a 2003.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to check the sender unit.

If you are going to check the sender, try checking the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge so you know what the "real" pressure is.

i would agree on comparing the dash gauge to a mechanical gage.

you might just have a very good motor.
