Sacks for the trunk of DD air models

I'm posting this as an update to a conversation that Randall (Rbalan) and I have been noodlin' how to maximize the ballast for the DD "air" and sport nautiques. I've had some of the 16 x 16 x 40 Vdrive sacks from FlyHi mocked up in the trunk of my Pro Air, and they would work ok, but they will leave alot of volume unused in the trunk. I've opted for some FlyHi "oem upgrade" sacks for a Supra. These measure 19" x 19" x 42" and will weigh approx. 565# each, compared to 400# for the Vdrive units. This is about a 1/3 more per sack, so a total extra of ~300 for two sacks.
I don't think either sack would fill completely, but the extra size of the Supra sacks will add more weight back there.
I've also got a custom sack for the ski locker and that should be about 550#.
I hope to get the boat wet this coming weekend to test the systems. I actually got some pumps running today, just need to finish wiring, and a little more plumbing, I can't wait to finish this project.

Thanks for the post Jack, let us know how the bigger sacs work.

You might want to be careful about overloading that trunk, the gas tank is under there and the floor of my trunk looks like it is only plywood so I don't know if it would support that kind of weight? But let us know how it works out for you...

My friend has a 99 sport and had a custom bag made from bigwake.com (no longer there) and it works great. It fills the entire trunk. The gas tank is under the rear seat, and not under the trunk floor. ON the air models, the ballast tanks are below the floor and a friend with an 02 air had a custom sac to fit the trunk also. Both set-ups work great.

Well, I got my "Gravity games" sacks today, and holy $*&# batman, they are HUGE! I was laughing when I aired them up, they absolutely dwarf the V drive sacks.
I'm gonna have to padlock the trunk locker lid down...

Fry, what Brodie said about the gas tank is correct, it's under the seat. The tanks under the floor of the trunk are the stock ballast tanks. After messing around with that setup, I'm glad (at least for the moment) that I removed the stock tanks. On my boat, the fill hoses were rubbing against the exhaust pipes, and getting to anything back there (like the rudder or steering cable attachments) is a nightmare. I figured I'll live with this setup for the year, and see how we like it.
            Pics soon!
