Ever replaced your carpet???

If you have ever seen how the factory puts the boats together, you would see that the carpet is the first thing put down, right after fiberglass. I believe that the carpet is installed even before the top (deck) is installed. A lot of stuff would have to be removed to do it right.

Mabey some people that have had their carpet replaced first hand can respond. Dan is correct. The only problem replacing the carpet on my DD is that the aluminum motor mounts go over the top of the carpet around the motor box. So installing aftermaket carpet you will see a stop start ling in the engine compartment No big deal.

I have heard of people payng $600 to have their DD nautique recarpeted that seems like a great price. Sorry I cant be of anymore help.

Does anyone know how much carpet you need to do the floor of a Air nautique DD.

And I know Nautique uses diffrent weight (grade) carpet for diffrent pannels around the boat what weight or grade is the floor carpet? Thanks G

Are you sure? I thought the same thing, but when I tore up the carpet on my '90, the original carpet was pieced around the aluminum cradle.

$600 to have carpet installed seems like a pretty decent deal if it includes all the materials. I havent installed my new carpet yet, but I expect 13 yards (6' wide roll) to be plenty. I got a little extra to do all the trim pieces on the seat bases, in front of the gas tank, etc. The carpet cost somewhere between $200-300, and is the same 28oz carpet CC used from 97-03. On newer boats the carpet is 40 oz, and my '90 originally came with 20 oz, I believe. I dont believe that CC installed varying weights on different parts of the boats, but ICBW.

Are you sure 6' wide is right? I measured and it was slightly wider just in front of the engine in my 92. I replaced mine and I guess I have $300 in materials. However, there is a lot of time in there scraping the old floor and vacuuming the dust. It is a very dirty job after all those years! Take your time and you can do a good job. I did mine while the interior was at the uhpolsterers shop...so the timing was great. The oly tough thing I found was locating some of the holes where seats originally screwed down and the clamshell met the floor. I used some finish nails poked though to relocate them in the end.

This was one of my concerns early on. Youre right- the floor is just over 6' wide towards the front of the motorbox. Luckily, the 6' roll of carpet is actually closer to 6'6". I was told this is pretty common, at least with the rolls directly from Correct Craft.

Scraping the floor clean is an unpleasant job. After I finished scraping, I used acetone and a wire brush to break apart the remaining glue residue. Hopefully the install will be more fun!

I used an outdoor carpet adhesive and a nothed trowel. That stuff is rediculously sticky...so keep the acetone handy! I only carpeted the floor, so it is a slightly different color than the sides, which is almost like a felt material. I am cool with it, but it isn't original...but then neither is the interior or the tower...or the speakers...or the stereo...oh well!

I have outdoor carpet adhesive from Lowes, as well as the trowels. It sounds like you dont have much working time with the stuff?

I replaced the carpet in my 88 and it was pretty easy. I had all the seats getting covered so everything was out and the old carpet pulled out in one piece and I used the old as a pattern to cut the new with alittle extra. I got the carpet at White lake Marine and it was about $300. I bought outdoor carpet glue at lowes and went to town. It took about a full day. here's a pic.

Thanks. I forgot to tell you, I don't know what year boat you have, but I had bought this new type of marine board to replace the plywood floor and mine actually had all fiberglass. I was going all out this stuff was 8 by 6 sheets and 3/4" thick,but I found out it was glass after cutting a few places ... I fixed them back and sanded and reresined the whole floor just to make it stronger. The carpet though I can't remember how much I ordered. I know I measured the boat then doubled it to get the sides,and then a few more feet for the back boards and foot boards. I'm in no way skilled at interior work and I jumped on this and it was actually easy, I was surprised.

G, that carpet looks great. What weight is it? It looks like it may be the 28oz gunmetal carpet used on the 97-03 boats that I will be installing in mine.

Unfortunately, Im intimately familiar with Correct Craft's floor construction.

I didn't want to go back w/ the dark gray, so I did get what came in the 97-03 ,the gunmetal. As far as the weight I don't know. It is thicker than the original.

Thanks. I didnt enjoy that project much- mostly because it went from a 2 day project to a 4 week project... in 95 degree July heat. The next project will be on a more relaxed schedule!

Your carpet is 28oz, FYI. I think our boats originally had 20oz. I noticed you left the plastic trim off the rear panel and wrapped the carpet around the sides instead. It looks great- Im planning to do the same. I assume you had to trim that board a bit to get it to fit?

Thanks. Yeah I left the plastic trim out in the middle and curled the carpet under and stapled it, I think it looks better that way,and My plastic trim was all torn up anyway. The board I actually used that marine board I bought instead of wood and cut it really close so that it was a really tight fit so it wouldn't move around. The board was so tough that while cutting it, it would melt back together after the blade went by.
