Throttle Jiggle to Start- 2005 SW211LT

50% of the time- it starts up no issues. First start of the day is usually good. When it doesn't start with just pressing the start button I take it in and out of neutral and try again- which can take a few tries but always works. I've also figure out that I can hold the start button down while simultaneously jiggling the throttle seems to get it going in one try.

What are the common causes of this? Should I be worried about the boat not starting on me this summer. Should I get it looked at asap- or can I wait.

Cluade(AI) is suggesting it might be the neutral safety switch for the Velvet Drive transmission — PCM part R153011. How likely is that?

    Thanks!

Depends on what throttle you have. I think by 2005 they were doing the Livorsi throttle which is known for having all kinds of issues including issues with throttle position lock out for starting. The first thing you'll need to do is identify which throttle you have, if it is the Livorsi just plan on it being the problem and start looking for a replacement. I personally wouldn't do anything else until you figure out which throttle control you have.

2005 should be a Teleflex mechanical throttle assembly. The Livorsi Electronic Throttle Base Assembly starting being installed in Nautique's in 2015. There a good chance the problem is the neutral safety switch. An easy way to verify is to take the wires off the switch and put them both under one of the screw terminals on the switch. Which bypasses the switch. If the problem goes away then it's the switch. But you have to be extremely careful when the switch is bypassed, because it's possible to start the boat in gear and with throttle applied so the boat can take off unexpectedly.
