    no crank 2018 - zr4

Hi we have a Nautique 200 CB
    which has no crank

we have measured and tested the gear selector.
    it is in neutral
and we have 1 ohm in the connector so it is as it should be.

but then my question is are there other things that the engine control unit looks at before it will let the starter run. ??

a little history on the matter.
the boat sails as it should we land the boat stops for 5 10 minutes. then we want to start to sail with a new runner
but then it won't start (no crank) so we mess with the cables on the starter and just like that it starts and works for days.
but the next day it is crazy again but we haven't got it to crank since.

then we have checked everything with neutral (tried with a different gear selector) but same problem.

    we can't find any fault.

we have tested and there are only 2 inactive errors (SPN: 29 TCP #2 SENSOR FAULT
    AND
SPN: 91 TCP #1 SENSOR FAULT)

    has anyone experienced anything similar

i can't find a wiring diagram for the engine control unit
does anyone have it for a ZR4

Search for "SPN - 29" and "SPN - 91" in the attached document. Should have what you need.

Sounds like the common issue of a failing Throttle Base Assembly. You spoke of trying a different gear selector, so maybe you tried a different Throttle Base Assembly? The other possibility is the keypad is failing.

+1 on failing Throttle Base Assembly - known issue, original design had a flaw and once it starts to go it will get harder and harder to giggle the throttle to get it to start.

          hi
we have tried with another (known good) gear selector
          it was the same problems.
but we have ordered a brand new one now to try if it helps
          and a keypad.

            hi
okay i will try that later today
we have ordered a new gear selector but it will be 10 to 14 days before we get it
            so i will try this

              zero off says no gps
              what could it be?

Is the boat under any kind of shelter while you're working on it? Sometimes that can block the GPS signals.

                    hi everyone
thanks for the answers you have provided.

we have come so far that it is the can signal that is wrong.

does anyone have a wiring diagram for this boat (200cb 2018)
and anything about the can wiring

when we disconnect the zero off unit and the power control module as well
then the boat can start and sail.

does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong.

If the boats works when certain devices are removed from the CAN Bus then the wiring is likely fine. Check the bus termination. It’s terminated on each end with 120 ohm resistors. One end is terminated by a 120 ohm resistor built into the engine ECM. The other end is terminated near the dashboard with a yellow or grey plug in resistor. With the boat powered off, measure the resistance between CAN-H and CAN-L at any point. If it measures 60 ohms then the termination is good.

Next unplug everything from the CAN Bus except the Engine ECU and Keypad which are the only devices needed for the boat to run. So unplug LINC Screen, GPS Puck, Zero Off Black Box, all PDM(s), AirMar Depth and Water Temperature Transducer. Assuming boat runs with that minimum configuration. Then add devices back one at a time. The AirMar Depth and Water Temperature biducers have a habit of disrupting the CAN Bus sometimes when they fail. It’s right in front of the engine. It may not be immediately obvious which device is causing the issue so you may have to experiment with different combinations. Sometimes a device fails where that device is putting too much electrical load on the bus such that when that device is connected to the bus it can’t support as many total devices. So, unplugging 2-3 devices may make it work just by reducing bus impedance. Plug the AirMar sensor back in last because that device has a history of causing bus issues. Another sign the AirMar sensor is bad is no depth or water temp readings. But that’s not conclusive on its own because they don’t always fail in a way where they disrupt the bus.

there is a round 20 pin connector on the back of the engine. you will find Can hi/Low on pins 16 and 17.

Hi, Thanks for the help, everyone. We found the problem this time: a faulty connection in the wiring harness.
