What is the easiest way to drain flush the coolant in a ZR409 without removing engine block plugs. I’ve read possibly hooking a hose to the heater? My coolant is old and I need to flush it with distilled water and re-add new coolant. Which coolant are you running in a 2014 ZR409… I’ve read 50/50 Dex Cool.

Heater hose connection isn't a bad idea. This is never a fun job.
PCM is recommending their new coolant for all engines now. New ZR-409 engines from PCM are shipping with this new coolant.

I changed the coolant in the "fresh water" cooling system in my 2003 Ski Nautique with 6.0 ZR6 engine today. Wasn't pretty, but it was fairly straight-forward. I got 3 gallons of GM Dex Cool coolant concentrate (not the 50/50 pre-mix) and 3 gallons of distilled water. I ran the engine on the hose until full operating temp. Engine off. Big container/bucket under garboard floor drain. I pulled the lower coolant hose from the circulating pump and let the coolant drain into the bilge...then into the big container. Approx. 2 gallons came out of cooling system. Put lower coolant hose back on circulating pump. I then mixed 1 gallon of coolant concentrate with 1 gallon of distilled water and refilled the cooling system with the engine running. I let the engine idle for 5 minutes. Drain. Repeat. Total of 3 coolant changes. Total cost was $55.
Tomorrow the old coolant goes to the haz-mat collection facility.

srock, good question. I actually asked that question to the service manager when I was at the Dealer the other day. The answer is not really does it mix, but is it compatible. He gave me the scientific terms, but at that point I just wanted to know what time it was, not how to build the watch.
Good write up Jonny Quest.Last edited by Scooter G; 4 days ago.
