    strange noise when put in gear

    I have a 2018 G23 with 570 hrs. On the weekend I noticed a new strange noise when I put the boat in gear. So to me its likely something in the drive system. Its kind of a whining sound. I will be taking it in to the dealer in Kalispell to look at it but wondering if anyone has any insight at what this might be? Hoping its minor and short lived as our summers are short up here.

      I had a 2014 230 SAN before i got my 2017 G23. Started to make noise when i put it in gear but continue to work fine for a while. A long weekend in Needles CA the reverse went out. Long weekend with no reverse. I took it to the dealer and they said the noise was coming because the reverse gear was worned out and it will make a noise even when you are moving forward. The transmission had to be replaced. I got the old transmission back once they were done with the replacement. When i opened it the reverse gear was worn out, and i noticed there is a magnetized little sump that collects the savings coming from the gear so particles of the gear don't travel throught out the entire transmission. there was a lot of metal particles / shavings in the sump. Pretty insteresting design to prevent damage to the rest of the transmission, however you still need to replace the entire transmission so it doesnt make a difference. I guess you can use it for spare parts!!! Any ways, knowing what i know now I wouldt risk it and loose my reverse gear again. My thoughts!!

          Ouch, that is a bigger issue than I was hoping to hear. Hopefully my issue is more "minor" but should know in a day or so. I did still have reverse.

              Mine has been making a whining noise for about 3 seasons, now. I thought it may have been a fluid under-fill condition, so I checked and added and it still makes the whining noise. I also have read on here that some props are known for making a humming or singing noise if slightly off. If your transmission checks out okay, perhaps it is your prop?

              It will be interesting to hear what your dealer has to say...

                  May be your vdrive getting ready to crash. Had to replace mine on my 2017 G23 with 550 hours for the tune of $5,100.00
