Hi all, proud new owner of a 2011 SAN 230 TE with PCM 409 engine. Test drove the boat during a private sale and everything was flawless. Loved the boat and purchased it. Trailered it 3 hours to the lake, put it in the water and it wouldn't start. LINC was booting up, but I hit the start button and nothing happened.
After some reading online, I was able to pull the start relay and plugged it back in, boat fired up right away. I figured something may have came loose.
After 1 hour on the water, shut the boat off to do some surfing, and the boat wouldn't start back up. When I put engine code in and pressed keypad start button, the LINC flashed black and wouldn't restart. Had to get boosted by a marine mechanic who was able to get it started by boosting a battery but also he said connections to the starter may have been loose, and drove back to take the boat out.
Boat is back in the water, but wouldn't start off of battery 2. Would only start on battery 1. (battery 2 shows 90% health). Was able to drive the boat back to the dock with no problems. Here's where it gets weird.
I wanted to ensure the boat was working correctly so I didn't get stranded again. I tried this sequence.
Battery 2 - wouldn’t start even after relay taken out
Battery 1 - started every time
Could turn boat off after first two tries using keypad
After try #3 couldn’t turn boat off using the keypad. Had to use the kill switch.
Turned boat on for try#4 and could turn it off using the keypad
Try #5 - turned on using keypad; turned off using keypad. Pushed start and It clicked the starter but wouldn't start. Pushed it again and it started and screen blanked out then the Nautique logo came on.
Does anyone have any ideas? Could it be a keypad issue? ECM? Starter relay? Loose connectors somewhere? Battery selector switch? Battery terminals? (there is some corrosion on terminals). Any help is appreciated! I want to be able to trust that this boat doesn't leave us stranded and I don't want to start buying things until I can narrow down the problem.
