1992 ski Natique steering cable replacement

Anyone have experience changing the steering cable on a 1992 NAUTIQUE ? the cable is obsolete they recommend using a UFLM66X 20, Question is if I go with this cable is there any other parts that need to be replaced to make it work?

You can always give Nautique Parts a call. Very friendly and helpful people at N.P. They can give you good guidance and instructions. I believe that the above-referenced cable is a direct replacement -- so you shouldn't need much more. I did a cable replacement on my 1994 (very similar to your 1992). On my boat, I had to change out the cable AND helm, but I think that this unit lets you avoid that. Again, the N.P. people will have more info on that.

The biggest PITA is clipping all the zip-ties that are holding the existing cable in the bilge and then re-securing the new cable. I pulled my cable out from the helm end. Tie a rope on the tiller arm end. That way, you can tie the new cable onto the rope and pull it back through the proper path with the rope. Not difficult, but you will likely earn a PG-13 rating for language during the process. It would be VERY difficult to thread the cable back into its proper place without the "guide rope" trick.

^^^ what Jonny said. Also, get a helper when installing the cable. You need a puller and a feeder.
