Engine ECM Updates?

When I got my boat back from the dealer this season, I was poking around in the Linc settings and saw the following alert:



Does anyone know the specifics of performing this update? I'm assuming I need to leave this alone and let the dealer handle it - to be clear, I did NOT tap anything and I exited this screen. Unfortunately, we've asked about this twice and not gotten any response yet. I'm going to call PCM, but sometimes they have not been very willing to talk to end users (in my experience). Any info would be helpful.

FYI - the boat is running great, but I like to always have the latest updates from the factory.

Just let it do the update. Make sure you're docked or anchored, and just let it run. These updates come over the air on newer boats. No need for the dealer to get involved.

NautiqueJeff - thanks so much for the quick response! I received the following response via email from PCM this morning, so now I'm pretty uncertain about what to do:

"This is a critical update and needs to be completed asap. If your dealer will not respond you can mail it to us and we can update it. The cost is $50.00 plus you pay for return shipping."

Any idea why they are saying that we'd need to mail something to them, and what they're referring to (the ECM?)? Of course, we leave on a 5-day boat trip tomorrow so not sure how to proceed.

Follow up - I've spoken with PCM a few more times, and you are correct. They kindly sent me the dealer update instructions, and it is an OTA update. Their only concern was that the update requires the latest Linc software, and I'm not confident that my dealer updated the Linc since the software version is dated May 2024. So we're working to get the Linc software update (if I remember correctly that takes a USB or SD card) then do the OTA ECM update.

Closing the loop - successfully performed both the Linc and ECM updates via the OTA process (Linc can be done via either USB or OTA). Everything is working fine. FYI, there was a 06/09/25 Linc update then a follow up 06/20/25 Linc update to address a bug. Proceed with caution and at your own risk, of course - I don’t recommend anyone perform updates they are not comfortable with!
