    2020 GS22 ZR4 6.0L at 5030 Feet in Altitude

I was wondering if there is a definitive answer on the performance of this boat and engine at a lake in Idaho that sits at 5030 in elevation. I tried the boat out at 2400 in elevation in Boise and it seemed fine at 100% ballast and only two people. How will the surf wave perform at 5030 feet and 8 people? I would be using a high altitude prop.

At 5,000 feet, a naturally aspirated engine will lose 20% horsepower. If you use the correct prop, the performance at wake sports speed should be similar to what you are used to. The prop can’t completely fix the horsepower loss, but it allows the engine to operate at higher RPM levels which is higher in the torque and RPM curves for the same speeds. You will lose top end speed.

This is why the good Lord invented forced induction…

i had a GS20 at 6200 ft with the ZR4. it was a dog. hated it. it could not be surfed with full ballast and 4 people in the boat. I tried several different props per ACME recommendations. Props did improve the performance, but it was not good. I seriously thought there was something wrong with the boat. I took it down to about 500ft elevation and the boat had tons of power. I sold that boat and bought a GS22 with the H6. That boat was a beast, never an issue.
