Just bought our first boat...2018 GS20 from Buxton in beautiful shape. Was checking the oil for the first time for due diligence....removed dipstick, cleaned off oil, and reinsterted. Met some resistance so pulled it and tried rotating the dipstick. Was meeting resistance but didnt push hard. Removed dipstick and to my shock the end was broken off. Not sure how long it should be but measuring 26 inches long now, think a decent chunk is still in the dipstick tube. Tried really strong magnet from outsite and using an oil extractor to suck it out without luck. Any ideas? Am I going to have to have the engine pulled to get this out and correct this freak incident?

That'a a first for me! We just pulled an engine on a 196 to replace the oil pan, and it is interesting how the dipstick tube is routed THROUGH the oil pan gasket. At least on an Excalibur. One way or another, I would suggest getting that piece out of there. I wish I had some suggestions for you other than pulling the motor and dropping the oil pan.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. Thanks Nautiquejeff. Quite a welcome to boat ownership for me. Able to talk to a few people, and have some things to try. Have some small magnestic retrieval tools to try. If that doesnt work will try removing the dipstick tube, as it is just pressed into the oil pan. The broken piece measures out to 6 inches which actually is good vs being smaller and likely means it cant really even fit into the oil pan. Many have suggested leaving it wouldnt be the most terrible thing as the oil pump does have a filter but like you I want it out of there. Fingers cross removing the dipstick tube is the solution. Will report back
