I have a 1994 snob that has the pcm 351 engine right hand rotation. 40i 1:1 transmission. Last summer the transmission was leaking fluid right where it attaches to the motor. I rebuilt the transmission with new seals and new plates. I replaced the transmission cooler too. I have been breaking the transmission in with no leaks until Saturday when at hour 5 on the breakin it started leaking again around where the transmission attaches to the engine. It is just a slow ooze of fluid. Maybe only an oz or so every couple hours. But it makes a mess in the bilge area. Otherwise the transmission runs great. Any ideas? Could it be the main seal at the front of the transmission? Since it’s leaking again, could it be a nicked piece of metal that is causing the shaft not to seal? Need help because I can’t find a replacement transmission and as far as I know the newer 80a isn’t right hand engine compatible. Thanks for all input.

You might want to check the transmission cooler hoses/fittings. I thought I had a front seal leak last spring (was getting fluid dripping off bottom of bell housing), but after pulling the transmission, I found one of the brass elbows that thread into the transmission body was leaking/loose. I resealed it and had no issues all summer. Something to check (i.e. confirm exactly where the fluid is coming from. Anything up front will find the lowest point to drip off (bell housing).

Unfortunately it’s not the cooler hoses. It’s coming from the front side of the transmission. I was told by a transmission guy that in fact the 80I transmission will in fact work for my boat and that you can reminder the pump direction for a right hand turning engine. He said that the shaft in the transmission is probably worn and won’t seal anymore and the only solution is a new transmission because parts are available anymore. So I guess I’ll be upgrading to the pcm 80I transmission pretty soon. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know though.
