    ZR6 Drain Plug Swap

Hello, this is my first post and I have a quick question. I have a 2008 SAN 220 with the ZR6 390 engine. I’m about to winterize it myself and have all the info to get it done properly. My question is has anyone ever swapped the brass drain plugs for the raw water system with the blue winged drain plugs? Good idea or bad? Just thought it would be easier and quicker in the future to add and remove drain plugs. Click image for larger version

Yea my neighbor installed brass petcocks where the blue plugs go. Now he wakeboards year-round, so keep that in mind. If you're winterizing once a year, I really don't see the value in changing them out.

Thanks, that’s actually a great idea but I only do this once a year so not a big deal.

i swapped with brass petcocks in my '08 230.
have a buddy with an '11 210 who swapped out the vdrive drain with the blue quick drains - hasn't had any issues for the few years its been used.
As long as the threads are the same to make a watertight seal, I don't see any issues with using all blue winged quick drains

I'm not a big fan of plastic stuff in critical areas. I would replace the plastic thingy with a brass petcock:

My 95 had the blue plastic ones, they may have been Mercruiser ones, - sometimes the oring would fall off then you'd be looking all over for it. I now use the above ones in everything.

I need to install a drain like that in the line just downstream of the oil cooler on my ZR4. That hose is supposed to come off per the manual, it’s a pain to wiggle off, and a TON of water comes out even after draining everything else.

I put one of these on one of these and cut the fitting into my raw water inlet hose, works great to run the boat in the driveway. I’m going to have to find something similar, but maybe more streamlined, for that oil cooler line.
