97 Ski w/ GT-40 slow out of hole

New to me 1997 Ski Nautique w/ 143 hours. Boat is mint, and every single component of the boat/engine is original. Original plugs, wires, even original impeller!!!

I added PP Stargazer w/ ZBox and mapped the system last week before skiing. Wake is great, but we noticed the boat is slow out of the hole. I had a 95 w/ the GT-40 and I would guess the 97 pulls at about 70% of the get-up as the 95.

I just replaced the prop with the ACME 422. It had an original 4-blade 13x15. No damage though.

Also planning to replace original plugs, wires, and distributor cap/rotor.

Any other items I should consider?

Also - Is there any way to add resistance to the throttle? It is overly sensitive.

    Thanks.

For sure start with the ignition components you mentioned. I'd do fuel filter(s) as well, and probably swap the tranny fluid (or at least verify level) as it can slip if low. At that age and low hours, I'd probably be a little wary of the fuel lines as well. If they sat for a while with ethanol in there, it can break down the old lines - wouldn't hurt to change them out to ethanol friendly lines if any of the other changes don't get you where you want to be.

Regarding the throttle - when you say it's overly sensitive - do you mean it's just too loose/free in its movement? Does it walk back to idle if you don't keep a hand on it? If that's the case you can add a clamp to the throttle cable to add a little resistance. Skidim sells one https://skidim.com/cable-brake-control-cables/, otherwise a typical cable clamp works too - just tighten to your desired friction.

By sensitive, I mean just a light touch and it accelerates. It does not snap back to idle unexpectedly.

Good points on the fuel lines.

Some throttle levers have an adjustment for the amount of friction. Not sure specifically on that model because even though I have a 98 Ski Nautique, I've never needed to look at the throttle level.

Start simple. Just added the Perfect Pass?

Check the PP linkage setup to your throttle body. It's possible it's not adjusted correctly thus interfering with normal operation. A simple test would be to disconnect the PP link and see if anything changes.
