Swim Platform Facelift

The weather was nice enough to go take my platform off the boat and start cleaning it up. Man was it weathered. Cleaning and sanding is done, so now it's time to re-finish.

Oh, and the "custom" light bar is now gone.

Any recommendations or preferences on which product works best? Star Brite? Total Boat? Any others?

Just soak it in teak oil until it stops absorbing it. May take quite a bit, but it will look great. Nice job with the sanding. Most don't do that and it REALLY helps.

Looking good! I love the rich look of a freshly-oiled teak platform. Though I love the maintenance-free aspect of a fiberglass platform, too!

Starbrite Teak Oil is my personal preference. Awesome stuff.

This thing sucked up the first coat of oil like sponge. We'll see what the next coat does this evening.

And yes, the garage does need cleaned out badly!

LOL, I was tempted to summerize my snowblower this past weekend but didn't want to jinx it. It is on my agenda for Satruday, though!

Yeah, time for that thing to go tot he shed, but I didn't want to jinx it either. Had to move it get get my motorcycle out for the first time this year, so maybe it's time. Bit of a chilly ride in this morning as I chose poorly on my jacket selection. Was 44° this morning, but it's supposed to be 73° by lunch.

Probably a good week to go put our pier in! New stereo, revitalized swim platform, LET'S GO!

We're supposed to hit 80 today and tomorrow, but our lakes are still ice covered.

That's crazy MN Ryan, hit 80 here yesterday, water temp is still sub 50's. Couple more weeks man, it's been a long winter, and know you guys got hammered.

We'll be back down into the 50s for highs this weekend. It's been a crazy "spring"--we've gotten our first 50, 60, 70 degree high all this past week, and we'll hit 80 either today or tomorrow.

What do you folks use to clean up the platform brackets? Anyone every painted them? We've got E-Coat and Powder Coat lines at work or I may see if I can send them to one of our vendors that coat/anodize. First though, I gotta get 21 years of oxidation and "gunk" off them.

No 2nd coat of oil yesterday. Daughters Track Meet went forever and 10pm was too late to start that.

Painted mine with standard rattle can paint. 500x better appearance.

Hit the platform with 220 grit and added another coat of Star Brite. We'll just have to see what it looks like once it's been out in the sun for a few months to see how I did.

We had a soft medium in the blast cabinet at work, so I gave the brackets a quick hit. May have to do a little more work on these before I paint them. And the person that welded these should have his helmet taken away and given a broom.

I apply Starbrite several times each summer season. I allow the wood to dry completely and then put a coat or 2 of Starbrite on. The swim platform always looks amazing.
