Oil Change Timing - does it matter and if so, fall change or spring change?

I generally get my oil changed 1x per year.

Is it better to leave your boat all winter long with clean oil or dirty oil and change it in the spring? Does it matter?

My personal opinion is I'd rather having it sitting all winter with clean oil but now I'm worried the oil deteriorates over the winter.

Somewhat of a holy war topic like "what's the best oil" but most professionals will recommend changing the oil before layup. The idea being that any contamination or acidic elements would be from the system and not given the opportunity to cause any potential issues.

Aside from that my personal thought is regardless of any benefits I want my boat ready to launch as quick as possible once the weather breaks and without any added effort. My boat is put away washed, waxed, all fluids changed and ready to start the new season. It also works well if you may be on the fence for selling or trading out your boat in the spring.

Or what is the best cleaner to use. I agree with above and use the same approach.
