    Water in bilge consistently-2gal

    Hi all,
Just from being out for 2 to 3 hours I just consistently see what I’d call about 2 1/2 gallons of water in the bilge.

Strange thing is it seems to be consistent as far as the amount.

When I’m running I don’t see any water under the engine or in the transmission door.

But when the boat on the trailer and I adjust it to level I get about 2 gallons coming out of the drain.

    Is this an
    expected amount for some reason?

And I don’t see the water leaking back out on the trailer at any point so where is this getting in? Ha ha.

I caught it with my antifreeze pan and put it in a 5 gallon bucket to measure. But it’s about 2 to 2 1/2 gallons of water.

When my boat was taking on water (a lot more than 2 gallons by the end of day, bilge was kicking water out about every 15 minutes) I left the plug in at the end of the day when I pulled it out of the water and came back the next day after the water was done dripping from trailer etc and crawled around under the boat to find where it was coming from. In my case it was a bad seal on the depth finder.

Check your heater core, mine was rusted out and leaking like a sieve. The water was warm... Water circulates through the core even if you're not running the heater. I capped mine off (I live in FL), may fix if it ever gets cold.

Thanks big red. If I take a look where would I cap it off at?

I can’t seem to find a link or any quick how to’s.

I just took the inlet hose and the outlet hose off, then used a double clamp hose repair piece to make a loop back to the engine, eliminating the heater core. You can buy a replacement heater core for like $100 if you want to. Nautiqueparts sells them. This is similar to the connector I used so you get the idea:

Are people getting in and out of the water frequently? Taking sharp turns with a heavily weighted boat? That imo, is not much water if that is what come out of the drain plug when you're done. A small amount of water drips through the packing gland (about 1 drop every 6 seconds if I remember right) as normal. I personally would not be worried about that small amount. A bad heater core can cause water in the bilge, but maybe a bit more than that since it circulating water. I doubt that is even kicking your bilge on.
Best of luck with your search.

Honestly I’m excited to dig in- I’ll guarantee heater core has issues.

I bought my 2006 from original owner. Right now it has 540 hrs as of 2021.

Owner used was a long time h20 competitor but not a big cruiser. We both live in Midwest so we can see harsh freezes.

Owner was hands off, so if fixed LOTS of small things:-) ( like this- lack of TLC stuff)
