Gopro 7 worked on my GS22. Did a test run with my wife surfing and using the Gopro suction cup mount and everything tested out fine.Originally posted by mcosub View PostI took my new GS22 yesterday and tried to connect a Hero 8. Finally reached my dealer and they confirmed with Nautique that the Hero 8 will not pair with their boat. They said it had to be a Hero 5, 6 or 7. Going to try my 7 tonight.

The 7 works but the connection is unreliable. There are days where it works fine, and others I have to mess with it all day. Not worth it. Went back to the 8 and got a Smart Remote. The Smart Remote is waterproof and comes with an armband. I just use that to start and stop.

I wish I would of waited. We will let our dealer know that it doesn’t work, he assured us ( as well as the LINC manual) that it would..hmmm, will look for a GoPro 6. We already had the mechanic out 3 times for different issues, we have 17 hours on our boat.

Bummer to hear. It should get better when you get all of the gremlins out. The GoPro issue is the only one I have had. Everything else has been solid. 45 hours in.Originally posted by keroqueen View PostI wish I would of waited. The GoPro Hero 7 works very well and will auto start/stop reliably. Of course there are a few issues.Originally posted by wrut View Post
Interesting. I have the same boat and it doesn't connect reliably. I can get it connected, but it drops out frequently. Does auto record work well for you too?
1). The camera will sometimes lose connection when the engine is shut down or restarted. Once it loses connection, 9 out of 10 times you must completely shutdown the boat to a blank LINC screen and then restart the boat to sucessfully reconnect the GoPro. You can tell it has lost connection when you select the camera and it says CONNECTING for a few seconds and then the text disappears. When working properly it will display CONNECTING until it actually connects. This takes about 15 seconds.
2) You MUST use an approved SD card or the camera will hang. This SD card works flawlessly.

3) Once the battery is dead changing the battery will require you to shut down the boat to reconnect the camera.
NAUTIQUE IF YOU ARE LISTENING Please add disconnect and reset functions for the GPro connection. To reset force the same events for the GoPro code as a power-up of the system.
Here is a trick I use to reconnect the camera when the battery is dead without shutting down the boat. I have two GoPros, we video both sides of the boat so when we do wake transfers we can switch the camera view. With two cameras identified to LINC you can go into the setup screen and select the second camera. We switch camera views all the time. Once the camera with the low battery is not connected to LINC you can power it down and replace the battery. Power it back up and select the camera with the fresh battery to have LINC control it again
Finally I have used the Nautique GoPro mounts but switched to dual GoPro Surfboard mounts to gain a much better view. The cameras stay dry and the video perspective is far better.
Here are a few pics of the setup.

Thanks for the tips. I have messed with it 4 weekends now and was about to give up. I will give those things a try, however, mine seems to be an issue with distance. I can get my camera connected and auto recording just fine in the driver seat, but once mounted on the transom it drops out frequently or won't start recording. I will try your mount locations to see if that improves. I have been meaning to stop using the Nautique mount anyway, it frequently spins or gets too wet to get a good view.Originally posted by greggmck View PostThe GoPro Hero 7 works very well and will auto start/stop reliably. I have read all of the GoPro connection directions published by Nautique but quite frankly there are too many unnecessary steps. I suppose some people have their cameras in various states so the detailed instructions are needed for all scenarios. But if you RESET your GoPro to the factory defaults. Then install the GoPro app on your phone. Start the app and select connect new GoPro. Follow the steps to connect the GoPro and successfully control it with your phone. This will set it up the camera with WiFi connection which has at least 50 ft of connection range. In this mode I have never had a problem reaching the camera anywhere in the boat.
Select 2.4 GHz for the WiFi in the connection options on the GoPro because Nautique only works in 2.4 GHz and the default of the Hero 7 is 5GHz, then write down the GoPro password.
To connect it to your boat: Power up the GoPro. Check Connections on the GoPro to determine that WiFi is on. On LINC, select new camera, you should see your GoPro appear, enter the password and then wait for it connect. This has worked EVERY time for me on my 2019 and now 2020 G23.
I never have to turn off my WiFi on my phone or play with Bluetooth using this process. It just works.
Here is a video from today's practice shot on the Hero 7 located in the higher mounting position.
The perspective is far superior to the lower Nautique mounting position where the lens is often covered by the spray from the rider.
As you can see the Hero 7 has far superior stabilization and video quality than prior generations.
Unfortunately YouTube converts the video to 1080P so the video quality of the camera at 2K is not viewable here but it is spectacular.

A fine couple of write ups! Thanks Gregg. I followed your same steps when I set my new 7 up. I think I am going to reset mine back to factory, remove the app from my phone, try your mounting location, and give it one last go. We both have jobs in which we have to check in occasionally on lake days and I am wondering if it is perhaps a hotspot interference issue. I may try having both of us turn those off as well.Originally posted by greggmck View PostI have read all of the GoPro connection directions published by Nautique but quite frankly there are too many unnecessary steps.
