    94 nautique with pro boss

Looing at a 94 nautique with open bow and a pro boss boat has 850 hrs is that high? What else should I look for or be worries about?

One thing to look for is check the wiring harness, if the plastic wrap is melted then the engine has been run real hot at least once. But 850 hours is not too many these engines will run a long time. Being a 94 means no wood, so no rot. Check the gel coat for blisters and cracking. If the interior is in bad shape figure at least 2500 for a new one. If it has the Pro Tec fuel injection, parts are no longer available, When it fails you convert to carb and new distributor. If the steering is stiff it may need a steering cable 200. Cover 500, if you want new decals 200-400 on average. Check the date on the trailer tires over 3 years old 300 dollars for a new pair. If the gel coat is faded, then it will be warm to the touch in the sun. Compounds and pads about 200. New impeller in water pump 30. How about some pictures. Hope this helps.

You can look online for a inboard check list for what to check. Post here with any specific questions and you'll get help.

        Is it a Sport Nautique?

Has new carb, impeller, and fresh oil change owner said the did the oil and impeller once a year. Gel coat looks great along with all the graphics and trim. Boat has never been beached and the only bad part is a rip in the drivers seat (not a big deal for can fix). Forgot to check the date code in the tires. Price is $9000 but I already got
him down from that but will get date code figured out and maybe use that to get it lower.

9k is a great price for a well kept Sport Nautique.

Also sorry for the dumb question but what are the two black things on the back of the boat under the swim step with black tubes going to them on each side of the boat?

Any suggestions on wake towers for this boat not looking for anything crazy so cheaper the better or should I ask that question in a different area?

Those are called Pitots and they are how the boat measures it's speed. Because accurate speed is important in skiing there are always two speedo's and two pitots on ski boats (at least in older boats, not sure about new ones).

What are you planning on using the boat for? While they are still good for wake boarding, there are better boats to choose. If you are looking for a good water ski boat that you can wake board behind then it's a good boat.

Also, in general finding a boat with a tower will save you money. Adding a tower board racks and bimini to a boat will cost at least 1.5K for a basic generic setup. A custom tower (most ppl will recomend New Dimensions towers for Nautiques) will cost 3k to 4k.

If you are on a tight budget then getting this boat and a fly high pole may save you some money down the road.

1994 could still have the ProTec engine management system. Look at the front of the engine -- where the distributor would normally be. If there is a black "hockey puck" looking thing, then you have ProTec. Another way to tell is if the spark plug wires all run back to the stern of the engine and connect into 4 small black boxes.

If you DO have the ProTec, then you may have to change it out sometime in the future as they are known to fail. Sadly, replacement parts are no longer available. Not a huge deal, but it could be in the $500 range (assuming you do it yourself).

850 hours is not bad for a 1994. I have a 1994 Ski with 700 hours. Runs like brand new. And, yes, the ProTech is gone and has been replaced with a high performance distributor.
