2006 Air Nautique 226 - Fuel Gauge Not Working

Boat had been sitting for a few months and the battery went dead. Put it on the charger for a few hours then it started right up. The only gauge not working is the fuel gauge. I can visually see that there is about 2/3 of a tank but the fuel gauge shows empty.

Any ideas? How do I test if it's the gauge, the Fuel Sending Unit or other? I don't see a separate fuel gauge fuse. All other gauges and electrical is working.

Anyone know where the fuel sending unit is located and how to get to it? I don't see it in the center compartment where I can view the fuel level.

If it turns out to be the gauge, anyone know if they still sell that same gauge?

    Let me know

Does the gauge light up when dash lights are on? The gauges are daisy chained from one another, there isn't a fuse for it but you can check connections at gateway box and on back of gauge. I'm pretty sure you can run some 12v power and ground to the back of the gauge and get it to light up and move if it's still good. I'm sure someone will chime in. Good chance it's the gauge. I had a couple go out in my 06

what Scooter said, or jumper the wires at the sending unit. If the gauge reads full when jumped out, it's probably the sending unit. You can also measure resistance in the sending unit based on position of the float. I'm not sure what these gauges are supposed to read, but someone should have the range - i.e. 273ohm = empty up to 0ohm = full.

The resistance range on the send is most like 240 ohms empty and 33 ohms full. This is also common in automotive fuel tanks. If you find the leads at the tank and unplug (assuming there is a plug) and jumper across, you should see over FULL range.
And open circuit below empty. This would also test the wiring between gauge and sender.

I'm guessing your fuel sender would be below / behind the rear seat, that's where my was on the 1999 air.

I had a similar problem on my 2005 216. I measured resistance on the sending unit which behaved as described above, so I changed out the fuel gauge for a new one and was back in business.

Reviving this thread, what's the prognosis if the gauge doesnt light up? Check the connections at the back of the panel?

Check all connections at gateway box, then start checking the connection on the back of the gauges because they are all daisy chained from one to another. If connections are all good pull the gauge and check to see if it moves by putting power to the connections. I had a few gauges go out on my 06. You can either send it back to faria to have it fixed or replace from nautique parts.

Okay - so I pulled the sending unit and it shows resistance on my volt meter. As for the gauge - there are 4 wires going into each plug, so I'm not really sure where to apply power, or how much power to actually apply - I don't want to burn anything up/out by testing it.

Power seems to be making it through the gauge, as all of the other gauges appear to work.

Ordered a new gauge from NautiqueParts.com - replaced the gauge - Life is good!

I can check one more thing off my list, and i'll be sending the old gauge to Faria and then i'll have a spare!

Thanks for all of the assistance!

Can someone post what Faria charges to repair a gauge? How long does it take? I'm having similar issues with mine...

As soon as they get back into touch with me, I'll post it here. Shouldn't be too terribly expensive.

Hey Guys....another revival of thread. 2006 SANTE, the 4 guages on the right side of instrument panel are intermittent. I have already pulled the gateway box and cleaned and checked connectors, I pulled the panel and checked all the wiring on the back of the gauges, everything looked normal to me. When they go dead it is always the same four, and the back-lighting in the gauge goes out also, the needles either freeze or peg to the left...really frustrating. Anyone have any more specific information on what exactly to look at. I suspect that it is not the gauges themselves since they simply appear to have no power/signal when they aren't working. I know they are daisy chained I guess Im looking for some specific info on what exactly to look for in the wiring.

I am having the same issue with my 2005 211team. The fuel gauge reads empty and when the panel lights are on the fuel gauge is not illuminated when all other gauges are illuminated. Does this point to the gateway box or the fuel gauge itself? I replaced the fuel sender and it didn’t help. Also, where would I find the mysterious gateway box on my boat?
