    ACME prop question

    My boat: '91 SN w/PCM 240hp, 320 hrs, 14 x 16 Federal 3-blade.

    Usage: Slalom, boarding and towables (kids only).

    What to gain with a new prop: Pulling heavy skiers or doubles from deep water starts, someday I'll barefoot so I don't want to loose too much if any top end.

    DIM advised me to get a #422 4-blade and ACME advised me to get a #470 3-blade.

    Any comments or opinion?

    RE: ACME prop question

    I asked ACME what prop they recommended for my 1990SN with PCM351, 1:23, and they said this:

    I should also point out this is dated August 14-2003

    ----quote----
    I am suggesting you purchase the Acme part # 422 12.5 x 15.5 four blade nibral 1" bore .105 cup. This part sells for $389.00. We do sell direct so please feel free to E mail your shipping address & call 1 888 661 2263 with your credit card information. We do charge a $10.00 documentation fee for canada shipments. The three blade that I have at this time is not quite right for the standard Nautique.It turns about 150 rpm more than it should. In other words we are still in testing stages on the three blade for the 1:23 gear reduction. The three blade for the 1:23 gear works great at higher altitude & lower hp applications, or when loading the boat for wakeboarding. The three blade does have a softer wake than the four blade. The three blade does all that the four blade does but quiker & with a better top end speed & just as smooth.
    Current Boat ==> 2004 Ski Nautique 206, LOVE IT!

    Former Boat ==> 1990 Ski Nautique, PCM351

      RE: ACME prop question

      Same thing they told me over the phone. I currently mounted the 422 on my '93 SN with TBI ProSki engine. I purchased this boat last year (for restoration) and will have it on the water for the first time this weekend, so I do not have the original prop to compare to...but will post my opinnions of this prop.

        RE: ACME prop question

        Something to consider is to get a prop with less pitch and get some more cup added to it.

        I just had my prop rebuilt (after an encounter with some rocks near shore) and I had them add some cupping past what it had from the factory. I was afraid I would loose some low end pulling power, but I really can't tell if I did. What I gained was about 2 MPH on the top end and I no longer hit the rev limiter. Before I could easily spin 5250 RPM, now I top out at 5050 RPM.

        Mine is a SANTE with a four blade, but I would assume you could get similar results with your SN and a three blade.
