SANTE 210 Custom Engine Cover Walk Through?

    Hi Everyone,

My boat is a 2005 and I want to know if anyone has any info on converting part of the rear engine cover to a walk way to access the swim grid easier.

    Thanks
    Danny

I'd actually been considering the same thing! Obviously the engine cover can support the weight of a person. Why not remove the vinyl and padding and recover it with something like SeaDeck? At least on our boat, no one is ever lounging back there... It's already just a walk-through: a padded, wear-prone, slippery one!

That would be good but the storage compartments would still be covered, I'm thinking putting two in one on each side of engine cover so it will match, and still having a wide strip of the original engine cover in tact.

Does anyone have info on this?

      Thanks everyone!

Ditto. I would be interested in a "group" by if someone could figure that out.

I'm keen to do it! Just waiting for winter (or possibly for the vinyl to wear out). I might try and photoshop it on my boat first to make sure it doesn't look like an (unsellable) abomination.

SANTE 210 Custom Engine Cover Walk Through?

Just a question for those who have used a boat with a narrow walk through (because I haven't) do you ever find yourself stepping into the padding beside the walk through to keep your balance due to some rollers or similar?

Another thing. All new boats with walk through have a cut out in the transom to match the walk through. Do you think it might look a bit strange if the walk through section sits lower than the transom and creates a small lip you have to step over to get to the platform?
I really like this idea to. But as above don't want to start a project that will end badly.

Edit: perhaps disregard that last bit. I suppose it does not apply to your shape 210.

I am also very interested in this thread. I also have a 2005 SANTE 210. The center section of the sun deck (the engine cover) pad on my boat is the only piece of vinyl that has tears in it. The tears may have come from an ill fitting cover, but I think the foot traffic over that section has made the tears worse. Installing a durable solution that has some non-slip qualities would be a great idea, as long as it still looks good.

Did anyone ever put SeaDek on their engine hatch? I have a 2005 SANTE 210 and am seriously considering this as a winter project. Any pictures or suggestions will be appreciated. I just recently posed this exact same question and got some good responses. Hopefully this post generates some additional pictures and feedback.

I asked the same thing earlier this year and got some good pics from another member of what he did.

Ok Everyone, here is the latest..... I have visited two custom repair fiberglass shops and both of them have said there is a lot of work to do on the this 2005 engine cover. The reasons are as follows.

                          1. It is not a matter of slapping some fiberglass with a gel coat.
                          2. Underneath is a huge hump from the cut out underneath wear it clear the top of the engine
                          3. The whole perimeter of this engine hatch cover is surrounded by a one inch rounded foam that the vinyl covers, you will need to remove it which increases your work load 1000 percent
                          4. The cost from two places is 4000 - 5000 thousand to make it Factory in appearance

I suspect that is why there are no posts on this year and model of boat of someone actually completing this. However I have a friend who is a metal fabricator and I an going to have him make an engine hatch out of aluminum.( $2500 + seadek $800) . I will post pics as this progresses, I have ordered the tracing paper and once the shell is built I will order the seadek. Time line for this is January. Stay tuned.

$800 to SeaDek is an absolutely outrageous price. Get with Derek at DekDesigns and he could do it for $400 or less I bet and put any logo you want on it.
