    Throttle issue (2006 sv211)

Hello, I have a 2006 SV 211. Engine is a PCM 5.7L 350 (model 02-570V-01). The engine cover also says it has digital throttle control. Recently the boat has started to have some issues throttling up. Every once in a while when coming around to pick up wakeboarders I will disengage the throttle. When the rope tensions, I will put it into gear by engaging the throttle. When the rider says go, I'll give it gas and nothing happens (it just stays in idle...transmission is engaged, but it won't throttle up). Usually turning off the boat, letting it sit for a minute and restarting it fixes the problem, but this afternoon that didn't work. All of the guages indicate that everything is fine (oil pressure, temperature, fuel pressure). Anybody else experience this issue? Where should I start troubleshooting?

I had the same issue on my 211. Try checking the perfect pass cable and dial on top of the engine sometimes if not lubricated every year with silicone spray or equal the cable won't retract and the cable dial will stick only allowing the engine to go to the point that it stuck open. When you turn the boat power off, and then restart, the engine systems go through the re-calibration of all systems. It sticks again when it gets back to the same position that it failed. Good luck.

I had the same issue on our 211, it was a throttle position sensor. When you hit the throttle after circling back for a rider the boat would go into limp mode. It would reset most of the time by shutting the boat down and restarting.

I'm having this issue with my 06 211. Did the throttle position sensor fix the problems you all were having? I've been back to the dealer a few times and they seem to be lost.

The problem in my boat seems to be intermittent and I can't say for sure it only happens when I circle back for a rider. Sometimes right off the lift it won't throttle up. Already replaced the throttle control module.

          Any help would be appreciated!

          Thanks.

The throttle position sensor fixed our issue, which sounds very similar to yours.

Throttle position sensor was replaced earlier this year before I purchased boat.

Latest update: PCM Recommended that the ground wires were inspected and secured/reinforced. Dealer ran the boat 2 times for 2 hours with no issues. Picking up tonight and testing again.

                  Thanks for all the support!

So.... 'Knocking on wood' the boat seems to be running perfectly.

The dealer said the solution was the grounding issues on the engine. He re-attached all the connections and added some extra secure washers or something, haven't had an issue yet today. Ran the boat for about 3 hours total on 4-5 different short runs around the lake today. The great news is that I tried all speeds and normal functions and I can't re-create the same throttle issue. Woohoo!

Unless something changes...hopefully I will chat with you guys on a different forum topic. (I'm a little worn out with throttle issues 😆)

Issue seems to be creeping up again. Dealer is going to replace the ECU next week. Will update again.

Similar issue with my 2009 216v. Idles fine, finds the gear, forward and reverse, but no throttling is happening.
After 1 minute or so, check engine light comes on.
Rebooting the boat does no good. Turned the batteries off at the switch, and also unplugged them.
Turned PP off, also no help.
wondering if I can buy a cheap diagnostic reader just to confirm the problem?
                        Thanks, all for any help!

                          Update:

Dealer installed a new ECU to the boat. Water test today and it still falls on its face. Same issue.

Boats back at the dealer now for more testing.

What a nightmare. Will update soon.

                            Hey Dan,

I'm not really a huge engine/gear head, but from what I've learned through this process with the service guys at my local dealer, running a diagnostic on the engine may throw a few codes, but it's still pretty difficult to isolate the problem.

As you can see from my previous posts and some other guys issues, it could be as simple as a throttle position sensor or checking the PP cable. Unfortunately my issue seems to be more than just a simple fix.

At this point I have a new; ECU, throttle control module, throttle cable, and soon to have a new throttle body.

Hopefully if the latest order of the throttle body fixes my issue it might give you a short cut.

                            Good luck!

Im having the same issues with a 2006 SAN 220. After we are out running for awhile, you give it throttle and all it does is engages the transmission and idles. Mine never does it when the engine is cold. Only after weve been out running for awhile. The problem got very bad earlier this summer and i was told to replace the Throttle Position Sensor (otherwise known as the potentiometer). After replacing it the problem went away for about 20 hours of use. we have put over 100 hours on this season and it currently does it almost every time we go out but now all we have to do is shut the boat off for about 10 minutes and then its fine again.

I would like to diagnos myself as it is a pretty big pain for me to put it on the trailer and take it in. Then if they replace parts and water test the problem may not show up right away.
i am not getting a check engine light

Sounds like many have had this same issue. Seems like there has to be a clear cut answer! Thanks in advance for any help.
